Jupiter

The fifth and largest planet in the solar system and the first gas giant in the Solar system. The only planet in the system that generates more energy than it consumes, the radiation off Jupiter is both a danger and a resource to its 80 moons. Most notably IoEuropa, and Ganymede
A massive colorful body of wind and storms several times larger than its inner metal core. It's atmosphere is covered in small refinery stations and large fields of junk, as the bodies gravity pulls in innumerable amounts of debris. There is a whole field of experts who preform "Storm Dives" for alien vessels whom fell into the planet during The First Wave, however the constant storms, immense radiation, and crushing gravity have made this a dangerous art.
Due to its immense size, the radiation and gas that prevents deep scans, and danger involved in exploration, only .7%~ of the planet has been mapped, and many legends of what is within Jupiter has passed around. Cults have been formed and refiners and Storm Divers often tell stories of Changed that come out of the planet.

History

Jupiter was seen early on as a deeply important target for colonization efforts. It's rich atmosphere was full of untold material goods, and though the body itself would never be effective choice for large scale populations, it's 80 moons were covered in valuable  materials, and notabily Ganymede was seen as the last body to be a full terraformation candidate. Also fascinating to colonizers of the United Earth Sphere were the volcanic world Io and the moon of ice and ocean Europa both successful candidates of a process called Partial Terraformation, where parts of the planet could be safe for full human exposure, but not all.
After the First Wave, Jupiter became a wild world under the shared dominion of several moons. Eventually however these bodies would unite, and since then the planet has been the star of the Celestial Connection and often it's unifying symbol.
