Sleipner Sector
The Sleipner sector is a large area of space, comprised of thousands of worlds and systems, located in what was once called the Ultima Segmentum, but since the opening of the Great Rift, it is now in the region of space known as the Imperium Nihilus, or Dark Imperium.
History
The Sleipner Sector was once like any other sector of the Ultima Segmentum- tentatively held by the Imperium but located so far from Terra that the resources to secure such an expanse just didn't exist and it was never on any of minds of any of the High Lords to do anything about it, rather they kept the core and more strategically held worlds and systems overburdened with military forces. As such, it was no surprise to those within the sector when word came of entire swathes of systems falling to the fledgling T'au Empire or when Waaagh! Grimskul entered the system and began taking control of so many worlds within the sector.
Calls for help went unaided as Black Crusades raged, Armageddon was assaulted, and the Cadian gate started to show cracks in the defences there. What PDFs existed were swept aside and any Imperial counter-attack came too little, too late. Soon Grimskul and his boys had captured an area of space to rival the Arch-Arsonist of Charadon or even the legendary Ghazghull Thraka himself.
It wasn't for three centuries that the Imperium would take notice of what had been taken and the hop came in the form of an Armageddon Steel Legion General called Georg von Aurach, who had been building the case for a crusade to reclaim it for his entire service and as soon as he was in a position-politically and militarily- the Von Aurach Crusade was launched to reclaim the Sleipner sector for the Imperium.
The system has seen some reclamation, with the Imperial forces of the 5122nd Imperial Army landing on Kulak IV and securing that, as well as the entire Kulak System to give them a solid footing in the sector.
Resistance has been fierce and now the sector finds itself the prize demanded by all races- humans, Orks, T'au and even Necrons
