Bernd Kitzmann von Franken
Crown-Cardinal Bernd Kitzmann, von Franken (a.k.a. der Fuchs (The Fox))
Crown-Cardinal, Bernd Kitzmann von Franken, Count of Aurach, is a veteran Knight suit pilot of House Franken who was off world fighting Imperial campaigns when the Great Rift opened and Regnitz suffered its perculiar fate. Count Bernd has fought every kind of enemy the Imperium has on every imaginable battlefield, not just Chaos cultists on death worlds to Aeldari on agri-worlds, but Imperial nobility in the very heart of Imperial estates, making him not only a verteran of countless campaigns, but as sly and devious as even the most self-obsessed planetary govenor and a masterful diplomat. As such, since Prince-Bishop Wilhelm Kitzmann-Dassler took over as ruler of the planet and the entire noble house and began his personal campaign to restore the Regnitzian people and way of life, the Count of Aurach has been instrumental.
Bestowed with the role of Crown-Cardinal, Count Bernd is now the lead Envoy of the Prince-Bishop, and when not waging war, he used his politcal acumen and savvy to negotiate with Imperial Generals and govenors, exchanging the Knight House's mighty military assistance for resources and personnel to aide the Regnitizan revival. Once a deal has been struck and recorded, he will then utilise is other expertise, mount his formidable knight suit, Moeltke, and stide into battle alongside is nephew, the Prince-Bishop.

Personal history
The man who would become Count Bernd was the second born to the ruling Kitzmann line of the Regnitizian nobility, with his older brother being the Heir Apparent to the governorship of Regnitz. As is fitting for a scion of Regnitzian, Bernd and his siblings were trained in knight warfare and pepared to undertake the Ritual fo Becoming when they came of age.
When the time came for his Ritual, Count Bernd presented himself to the lead Sacristan and, through ancient divinations, they attached him to the throne of the Dominus class knight Suit, Moeltke. He Survived the knight and, embuded with a stronger sense of duty to the Hosue and wider Imperium, strode forward to wage war across the sectors of the Emperor's realm. Victory upon wictory were won and he returned to Regnitz with more battle honours than any of his peers across the entire regnitzian nobility, bringing further glory to the throne that his family had held for generations, eventually passing to his elder brother.
During one particular triumph that was being held after Bernd and his lance returned from war, he was summoned to the palace and his presence requested by the Hochknoenig himself. He went, as summoned, to the throne room and walked down the corridor of applauding royal household and followers and knelt before the throne and his brother. After he rose he was then bestowe don two of the greatest honours he would ever receive. The first was the fief of Aurach, a large and wealthy fertile region of the planet, continue micro-fiefdoms which would be Count Bernd's right to award to those he felt worthy of the honour. The second honour the High King bestowed upon him would be something he would have to bear alone, for he was asked to become the Knightsblade and teacher for the king's eldest son, the young Prince-Bishop Wilhelm. The king knew there was no-one better suited to teach the young Prince how to grow up and be ready to one day, Emperor willing, assume the throne fo Regnitz.
The honour was Count Bernd's and he began teaching his nephew the ways of leadership, politics and war, that the Franken people expected of their rulers. Whether on the training fields, in the armoury or in the midst of a war, far away form home, Count Bernd taught the boy everything he could, all the while keeping the young knight alive. Their bond became a close one, now reinforced by the spirits within the Thone Mechanicii of both Moeltke and Bismarck. Then, the galaxy was torn asunder by the Great Rift, and wars of conquest became battles for survival. Together, uncle and nephew fought off mutants, heretics and xenos, tryign to get back home. Together they escaped as the last knights of House Bayern sacrifced themselves for their Prince, weathered warp storms and the agonising long route back to a Regnitz devoid of all human colonisation; devoid of their family and people.
Now Count Bernd fought a new battle, for as his still young nephew was faced with suddenly being the apparent ruler of a virgin world and facing the choice of whetehr or not to allow the house to fade into extinction, the voices both Bernd's mind and of other knights around them began to whisper the question if Wilhelm was old or mature enough to rule? Some even suggested Bernd launch a coup and take the throne himself, with knights pledgign their swords to him should he choose to. He knew it wasn't the first time plots of mutiny and backstabbing had rocked the core of a noble house anywhere in the Imperium, and if he did it, he would not been seen any any different to other governors. Yet, deep within, the promise he made to his brother always echoed louder than these temptations and when Wilhelm announced he would rebuild his people, one person at a time, Bernd was the first to silence the schemers and the voices of the enemy and to kneel infront of the new reuler of Regnitz, pledging to be at the Prince-Bishop's side for as long as the Emperor would allow him.
Since that day, Count Bernd has been bestowed the title of Crown-Cardinal, a unique appointment that grants him the authority of the high king to establish contracts and treaties in the name of Prince-Bishop Wilhelm of Regnitz, even if lord of House Franken is not present, and his words and agreements are to be considered law. Now he helps his nephew to achieve his goal, both on and off the battlefield
