Novo Sanctus
Novo Sanctus, known as New Sanctuary in Low Gothic, or simply Sanctuary to guardsmen of the 5122nd Imperial Army is a world in the Kulak System which is solely given over to the rest, recuperation and retraining of guardsmen who have come off front line duty either due to the end of their tour or due to injury. Seen as the exact opposite of Kulak IV, which is focussed on the running and progress of the 5122nd army and Crusade as a whole, any time a soldier is given on Sanctuary is seen as one of the few luxuries found in the entire Sleipner Sector .
Climate
Novo Sanctus has a relatively steady orbit with a perfectly perpendicular axial tilt to the plane of orbit and as such has distinct bands of climate and weather radiating from hot to cold the further away form the equator you go, with each hemisphere a climate mirror of each other. This orbit also leads to highly stable and predictable weather patterns
History
When the Kulak system was finally deemed completely under Imperial control, following the Defence of Revelor, and ceded to the Departmento Munitorum for use, Novo Sanctus was little more than a tundra covered rock, with two polar ice caps and Imperial prospector teams found little to know useful minerals or compounds that would aid the crusade. This left the staff of the 5122nd Departmento Munitorum Regiment with the choice of how best to use the planet. The captains of the Imperial Navy wanted it to be another bombing and orbital gunnery range; the clerk-adepts of the Departmento Munitorum wanted it to be a warehousing world, but it was the Master of Logistics, Lord-General Simeon Hunter-Grenwald III who got his wish, although many are unsure how he swung the vote.
His suggestion was one that many in the grim darkness of war in the 41st Millennium would never have considered, he suggested with a little specific terraforming it becomes a unique mix of hospital and resupply world for the billions upon billions of Imperial Navy and Astra Militarum personnel. Those who are injured would be sent here, to a paradise world where the Officio Medicae would have their facilities to get them ready for frontline duties once more and those who were fit and able would be rewarded for their service and get downtime and leave on the world, which would be focussed on their entertainment and enjoyment- a unmatchable reward at these times.
With some minor concessions, such as a suitable cathedral being located on planet and the Departmento Munitorum having a set of facilities specifically towards reallocate of manpower and retraining following promotions and transfers, the plan was agreed and put into motion, with Lord-General Hunter-Greenwald III holding the position of Governor-Militant and being solely responsible for the success of Novo Sanctus
Tourism
Novo Sanctus is recorded as a military world and as such, non-Departmento Munitorum personnel are not permitted on world, with the only exception being those with appropriate permissions or the occasional authorised transport of pilgrim-immigrant workers who will serve the Imperium's fighting men and women- a position well regarded as most pilgrims end up with a better quality of life and more freedoms than most worlds in the Imperium and non worker of Novo Sanctus will ever be called to serve unless the world is assaulted.
As such, it is fighting men and women from the Navy and Guard who are found on this planet when they are afforded leave, have earned it for great victories or are due to be retrained following promotions or transfers due to deaths or mergers of regiments. Most look to spend all of their income on entertainments of all kinds that are permitted by the Provost Guard (the Adeptus Arbites have no presence on this world, instead the Departmento Munitorum police it with regiments drawn from worlds known for their discipline, such as Mordia, and enlist them as Military Provosts).
Although heavily subsidised, nothing is free on Sanctuary and so a soldiers entire earnings are typically blown at every trip to Sanctuary, however they must be careful as once their credits have gone, they are left with two options- indebt oneself to others or return to ship/camp and work for the remainder of their stay)
