Simeon Hunter-Grenwald III

Lord-General Simeon Hunter-Grenwald, The Third (III) (a.k.a. HG3)

Simeon Hunter-Grenwald III is the current Master of Logistics for the 5122nd Imperial Army and, since the Great Rift, the entire Von Aurach Crusade Forces . He is also the Governor-Militant for the planet of Novo Sanctus and to all intents and purposes, with his chequered past all of this should have been out of his grasp and he should be a nameless penitent in a penal legion somewhere in the galaxy, but it would seem the Emperor's Will demanded otherwise.

Physical Description

Specialized Equipment

Early in his life, with his future expected to be within the merchant class, Simeon received a number of cerebral upgrades to assist him in his role as a Chartest-Captain of the Highest order. Not an uncommon occurrence within chartist  and mercantile households, these implants allowed him to quickly assimilate market conditions and make assessments on prices and dealings as well as allowing him to recall exact details of millions of transactions at the blink of an eye. Upon is appointment within the Departmento Munitorum  General Staff, he had these further upgraded to detect, identify and extrapolate syntax and linguistic nuances allowing him to effortlessly dialogue in almost any dialect of low or high gothic

Personal history

Simeon was born into the ancient house of Hunter-Grenwald, a family who owned hereditary charters and two Warrants of Trade dating back to the dawn of the Imperium, forging them into a strong financial powerhouse, seemingly impossible to topple unless the Emperor wished it. The fourth scion of the mercantile family, Simeon knew he was destined to inherit one of the Chartist-contracts which, although not as impressive as the Warrants of Trade his eldest brother and sister would hold, it would still give him a comfortable lifestyle for centuries to come.   He future seemingly took a turn for the worse a few years after he left the academies of trade and the family was subject to an Administratum Audit. Now every merchant family and chartist-captain in the galaxy, Simeon included, always had unofficial dealings as well as what they were chartered to trade- it was part and parcel of the role and, on some worlds, having the right black market contacts and doing the right deals was often the difference between landing a cargo and having it unloaded before rivals, or not even being given permission to land at all. This time however, the ancient and powerful Adeptus Administratum was claiming the Hunter-Grenwald bloodline had knowingly engaged with trade, not only out with the limitations of their warrants or charters, but with Xenos. Simeon suspected a rival was involved in this, as did most of his family, as he had known his limits and stayed away from xenos tech, but the process needed to run its course.   For decades the family was held under house arrest, their house/prison patrolled by countless members of the Adeptus Arbites and the rest of their ships and properties seized or impounded by Imperial Navy Security or Astra Militarum regiments acting under instruction of the Administratum. The verdict came soon enough- poof had been found and the senior members of the family had indeed done as they had been accused for centuries and had actively covered it up. The household was issued with an Edict of Dissolution, effectively ending the Hunter-Grenwald lineage for all eternity and passing all of its assets to ownership of the Administratum for re-distributing to loyal subjects; his parents were punished as traitors and he and his siblings were sentenced to life in servitude in a penal camp or until the Emperor deemed otherwise and were scattered across the galaxy.   Simeon was sent to serve is life sentence on a penal world, and the adjustment was quick and brutal. Very quickly to his credit, Simeon soon learned that all of the titles and bloodlines in the Imperium meant nothing to a penal colony's inhabitants- there was a whole different hierarchy here and he was at the bottom of it. Beatings and shakedowns were commonplace for the first few weeks and it hit a point were he knew he needed to find a way to survive. For the next while he kept his head down and stayed in line, even simply referring to himself as HG3 (which is similar enough to an inmate number, so drew no attention to his noble descent), and he did what he did best. He observed and watched for an opportunity, much like his trading days and soon he tapped into the black market within the penal colony.   Where hardships lied, there was profit- financial or reputational- to be had and so he began trading favours and information, then victuals and supplies and then he even put his hand to pit fight brokering. All the while, he brought his work gang with him. They had been the ones who had taken him in and fixed him up after the beatings and showed him the ropes. They had brought him in to the gang and had taught Simeon a lesson most noblemen and women forget- humility and the benefits of looking after those who work for you. Originally they only needed him to stand a chance of beating rival gangs in quotas, but he began to look after them, giving them more clothing, better tools, more rations and in return he bought their loyalty and backing and it was his way of thanking their kinship. Fortunately his implants hadn't been stripped of them and he was able to use them to even broker deals between inmates from different worlds and even some guards. Some tried to emulate his efforts, but his rivals soon felt what it was like at the bottom of the pile once more as guards would shake them down, confiscating items that would, as if by magic, appear in possession of HG3 before It was a long way from galactic nobility, but here, he was HG3, the king of the deal and the leader of the black market.   Word of a black market kingpin running rife on the planet reached the governor and no matter how much they tried to find out who it was or bring an end to the power they had attained for fear of it leading to rebellion, but no matter how hard he tried and no matter what methods they tried, the culprit was never found - spies sent into the colony would return with false information after striking deals with HG3 himself, or dead if they had rejected them; guard raids would always end up raiding the incorrect locations (some would even say this was intentional!). Fearing the loss of their own power and position, the colony governor requested assistance from the Adeptus Arbites, insisting it was a rebellion forming.    Word reached the governor that the the response to his request for support, but when it arrived they were left confused. For, instead of a Arbite Judicial Fleet, a single Dauntless class cruiser with two Sword frigate escorts arrived into orbit and two crew transports descended to the planet's spaceport. The two craft landed and opened to reveal a stern man clad entirely in a suit of red carapace armour, under a blue greatcoat, escorted by a unit of Scions in identical armour and another man wearing blue winter garments. The man introduced himself as Lord General Napoleon Letizia and said he had heard of the governors reports of a person suspected to be planning a rebellion or coup and, whilst he questioned the accuracy of the assessment, openly stated that he felt that this person may be of service to the Emperor yet knowing that some of the guards were probably in on this "rebellion" and would get word to him.    Sure enough, Letizia's hunch paid off and whilst enjoying the governors hospitality, a report came in suggesting the exact whereabouts of this individual and was confirmed by "a highly reliable agent who had been in deep cover for years". Letizia insisted he and his escort alone would go and investigate. They were taken to the specific quadrant, the journey relatively uneventful and nothing precision fire from hellguns couldn't resolve, but sure enough. Letizia came across HG3 in a relatively opulent setting, surrounded by pick wielding guards and loyal supporters and the two began a discussion behind closed doors.   During this time Letizia revealed he knew exactly who HG3 was and his history but felt that Simeon's skills could be better put to use as the Quartermaster-General of his new 5122nd Imperial Army, especially amidst the imperium being stretched on a number of fronts- Armageddon and Cadia to name a few- and for the 5122nd to function someone with Simeon's unique skillset may be needed to ensure supplies get to where they are needed. Simeon agreed to the appointment on the basis he was declared redeemed in the eyes of the Emperor, along with his work gang who he would need for logistical support staff. With a curt nod from the Lord General, the party left the penal world behind and headed to Kar Dunaish and their formal induction in to the Departmento Munitorum's General Staff, assigned to the 5122nd Imperial Army     ===pardoned and enrolled into the DM Gen Staff

Employment

Following his pardon and his induction and training in the Departmento Munitorum's General Staff Cadre, Simeon was attached to the 5122nd Imperial Army, under Lord-General Letizia as his Quartermaster-General and to make sure that the Sleipner Crusade, more specifically the 5122nd, had a steady stream of equipment, manpower, vehicles and materiel as it was required for Letizia knew that a major factor of failure was a failed supply route and with the Imperium stretched on all fronts it would likely be newer crusades and campaigns that would suffer in light of existing ones. His hunch was right.   Not long after the Von Aurach crusade launched its first offensives, resources were already being reassigned to support efforts in the Cadian Gate and the ongoing Third War for Armageddon and so, in many senior meetings Simeon would receive the cryptic messages and instructions from either the armies leader or Master of Operations, Juha Jussila, to secure supplies via his network of contacts and his natural ability to negotiate a deal. Ships found orders suddenly changed mid warp jump; official requests were often for much larger quantities needed to ensure that HG3's boys and girls got what they needed, after Munitorum alterations had occurred; some black marketeers and rogue traders even provided the crusade with basic food and medical supplies "found just sitting there in abandoned warehouses" in trades of units of leman russes or even some squads of guardsmen to supplement voidsmen companies. One rumoured example is that a tithing fleet went to collect a newly tithed regiment from a world only to found it had already been collected by "another tithing fleet", at roughly the same time as unexpected regiments appeared to bolster the frontlines in the Kulak system!   HG3's abilities to keep campaign supply posts stocked provided to be invaluable and one of the big factors Lord General Militant Letizia attributes to the 5122nd's abilities to whether the effects of the Great Rift opening- a matter of pride to Simeon, and vindication for his pardoning from his sentence.   Today HG3 can be found roaming around his headquarters on Novo Sanctus, ensuring his direct charges are doing their job, and enjoying a few perks, within Simeon's own unofficial, yet accepted parameters of course! To the everyday guardsman he is a typical pompous senior officer whom they are not allowed to talk to, but who all secretly thank The Emperor for being there. To those who end up attached to supply, they soon discover than beneath the hard, boisterous exterior, the Quartermaster-General genuinely cares for the troops and won't let them go without- his way, so they say, of thanking the Emperor for his second chance. He also teaches his unique approach to supply and is always encouraging those to find the grey areas and exploit them for the good of the crusade and permits a certain level of logistician to dispense with official titles and simply refer to him as "HG3".

Accomplishments & Achievements

Besides enabling the 5122nd to survive independently during The Blackness and Great Rift, HG3's greatest achievement has been the establishment of Novo Sanctus, as a world dedicated to supply and the wellbeing of the troops.   Achieved with a combination of calling in favours, his usual silver-tongued tirades and a level of diplomacy and decorum that surprised even his peers in the Army Group Command, he took a barren, resourceless world and gave it purpose. Through carefully considered diplomatic manoeuvrings, HG3 established a world that would become his domain, which not only gave his supply branch a huge continent spanning logistical spaceport, but also gave the Officio Medicae a base for the hospitals; the frontline troops a place to be allowed to enjoy their leave in a controlled manner and also gave HG3 the perfect place to foster relationships within the overly opulent, not to mentioned bugged and monitored, Merchant Quarters in which visiting traders, chartists-captains, Rogue traders and even some select smugglers, mercenaries and blockade runners are housed away from the general military population and catered in order to build and strengthen HG3's networks to ensure supplies keep reaching the system. He has even reached an agreement with the Mistress of Intelligence to use the facilities for intelligence gathering for the crusade

Failures & Embarrassments

Following the verdict of the Imperial Audit, Simeon and his whole family has their patents of nobility and their merchant charters revoked and awarded to a rival family. Guilty of the heinous crime of acting out with the awarded charter his family were separated and individually punished: His parents, the family matriarch and patriarch were subsequently sentenced to Servitude Imperpituis and were made into the most menial of machines- deemed to be a fitting example for those who cross the Administratum. He and his siblings, were each dealt with separately and scattered across the galaxy- a visible display of the family being torn apart and destroyed.  He never knew what happened to his siblings- he never cared to find out to be truthful- and his house servants would have been part and parcel of the merchant charter an property they had forfeit. Simeon spend five years in a penal colony, mining for ores and fighting other miner-gangs for additional rations and mining rights at the master's whims, before Napoleon Letizia and he crossed paths.

Quotes & Catchphrases
"Listen to old HG3 son, it is a soldier's right, nay, duty to obtain what comforts he can for him and his fellows and get away with what he can, whenever he can. Those who complain are just too stupid to realise"   "Understood my Lord, I heard of a transport which may be having to do an emergency warp drop due to some mechanical fault near Revelor. I'll make sure a battlegroup is there to help them out, sir"
Known Languages
As previously mentioned, as part of the Hunter-Grenwald Trading house, Simeon received various neuro-augmentations which allow him to not only enhance his natural abilities assimilate and process information, but they also allow his to quickly break down any dialect of high or low gothic into syntax, phonetics and identify any patterns or nuances which his implants then sent to the parts of his brain linked to language and communication, giving him the seemingly uncanny ability to speak with almost fluency in the majority of dialects of gothic. this was designed to allow him to increase his opportunities to generate more trade and wealth whilst avoiding attacks, ambushed and bad deals. The level of his implants of so high that Simeon is able to switching repeatedly and seemlessly between them in a single conversation, without slowing the pace of it down.   Since being brought into the 5122nd Army, the implants have been upgraded slightly to now encompass a limited selection of Xenos languages as well, although he has noticed that utilising these upgrades does drain him somewhat and can leave him with lingering after-effects lasting a day or two.
