Alloymagician Profession in Skeigham | World Anvil

Alloymagician

A good Alloy Magician does not ask "Would it be possible?" but rather answers the question "How will we make this possible?". Iron that has the color of gold? Quartz that can transfer magical energy? Lead that is light as a feather? Silver that protects from a magical storm? You are the people, that will make this happen!

Alloymagicians are a techno-magical profession that focuses on both creating alloys using magical means as well as researching alloys with specific magical properties. During the 1400's this also included the manipulation of material properties beyond their original capacities, which transitioned into Metalchemistry.

Origin and Training

The profession originated among the Dwarven cultures first. A good dwarven smith was able to alloy metals together in unusual relations, combinations and with less heat then other smelteries were able to. This practice was especially honed within the Great Dwarven Foundry, leading to the discovery of Dwarven Whitesteel among other alloys.

Traveling humans, especially from Rhomedan, Baradolia and Ethoressi were able to slowly pick up and trade for these skills. Most humans today that want to be trained in the art of alloymagic would be trained in Bun Daresh, the melting pot between Dwarves, Humans and Orcs.

Appearance and Recognition

An Alloymagician at the beginning of the second millennium after the Ruling was a very mystified profession. A long-standing rumor claimed that Alloymagicians had the ultimate goal to create Gold out of any material. This was not true however since the transformation of any metal into shiny yellow material was surprisingly simple yet very straining on the magician.

This did lead to a kind of reverence towards the profession as a bringer of wealth. This was of course not untrue. A good ally magician was able to provide any industry with high-quality alloys, perfectly fit for each task - be it building, machines, fashioning of tools, weapons or jewelry.
