Breaker of Chains, Champion of the Realms, Bālthazar Reyes Skyburner- Frey (a.k.a. Billy)

Beneath the starry sky, A young Skyburner rises high, Bālthazar, or 'Billy' to some, Bearer of an ancient legacy, he has become. His father, Bālkyth, a warrior and mage, Whose power and skill knew no age, Passed on his might to his son, To carry on the tradition began. With daring exploits, he roams the cosmos wide, A hero whose deeds shall never subside, In his veins, the blood of champions flows, As he continues to rise and grow. Bālthazar, the Skyburner bold, Whose legend shall forever be told, May his spirit never falter nor tire, For he is a hero, strong and inspired.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Bālthazar is a tall and lean muscular Humanoid being. His skin is light brown, worn, and seared with the stomach acids of many creatures whom he has often found himself digested by. His right arm was amputated, shoulder and all, supported now by an artificial golden robotic one, although he does not sleep with it on. Scars and cuts and bruises mark his body like tally marks on a board, each one earned through countless battles with Imperial Knights, shattered demigods, and all manner of Monster and Daemon that lurk just beyond Yggdrasil. His body, from head to toe, bears sigils and runic spells, Magical seals and wards he uses to protect his inherently weak body against harm. The palm of his left hand has been stained red, matching the red-stained right palm of his Lady Wife, Mirjam Frey, proof of their marriage and a small spell of protection shared between lovers.

Identifying Characteristics

  • A rich and full head of distinct purple hair with matching purple eyes

Special abilities

The Word Legendary, when mastered by a Learner of Names, enables them to soar beyond the bounds of their mortal limits and reach for a Glory Everlasting. But what does this truly mean, you ask? To become Legendary is to ascend beyond the realm of the physical and dwell forevermore in the tales and ballads that Skálds will weave for ages yet to come. This Word unlocks within its wielder the ability to surpass any prior restrictions and strives towards even loftier pinnacles, whatever those peaks may be for each individual. In effect, the mastery of Legendary is to die twice; once upon the interment of one's earthly remains, and again at the last breath of someone who utters your name. This is a transcendence of limitations; the user can overcome any weaknesses or constraints, whether of a personal nature, a product of their species, or inherent to their other powers, thus emerging as either highly resistant or completely impervious to these shortcomings. Via his standing Contract with Titania, Balthazar possesses many boons. FAE MANIPULATION allows Balthazar to create FAE of his own to do his bidding, chief among them being Bāsil, a lesser FAE who can channel the Aesoteric Energy internally within his body, allowing him to naturally convert it to Magical Energy and back again effortlessly. THE FAE LAMENT is a type of FAE Aura that allows Balthazar to enter a state of bliss and inner peace was once sung, making it so that the stress and tense agony of battle are considerably lessened. Not entirely though, a blunt sword cuts no limbs. The song also expels foreign energies from the mind.

Specialized Equipment

The Swords of Balthazar

Sir Balthazar was recorded as one of the best swordsmen in the cosmos and wielded many blades. Some of them have been recorded here;
  1. The Legendary Sword, God Shattering Star: A Zweihänder that once belonged to Balkyth, Balthazar's father. The weapon was cast from Rainbow Diamond (SEE The Aesoteric Arts of Vanaheim), capable of killing even the greatest of the Gods. The weapon was named for its ability to 'shatter' the point between any two spaces, creating an Einstein–Rosen Bridge. GSS was enchanted to return to its master when called but seemed to have a will of its own, burning the hands of any it deemed unworthy (It goes without being said, but only those born of the Lineage of Balphus can wield the sword).
  2. The Honored Regal Blade, Amenhotep III: This fabled longsword was once wielded by Sword St. Mtupeni Uba, a Knight of renowned prowess who is said to have dispatched a staggering horde of 100,000 foes in a single night, all without ever once unsheathing her blade. Yet it came to pass that Lady Uba yielded her Regal Blade to Sir Balthazar after he had proven his mettle by besting her in a fateful duel, a testament to his mastery of the sword and his ability to vanquish so formidable a challenger.
  3. The Black-Water Colossal Great Swords Eyanosa and Jāereiss: Bālavaun the Beast of Blackwater, Balthazar's great-Grandfather, was felled by the Death-Hand YASUKE. Before his demise, he gifted two of his colossal great swords to Balthazar to wield in battle, impressed by his skill and abilities. The weapons were named after two of Balavaun's favorite sons who died in the war.
  4. Retirement, Swiftblade of Eternal Struggles: ThisYatagan originally belonged to Balthazar's mother, imparted to him when he was knighted by his Master, Maredudd the Unbreakable. It had a number of lesser Enchantments, principal amongst them granting swift speed and agility to its wielder.
  5. ESPADA & The Skyburner's Oath: Sir Balthazar conjured two Sword Arms in his time, each on composed of 1/3 of his full power. The 1st was ESPADA, a long sword made after he learned Legendary, the 7th Word of the Seven-Part Name, which contains his raw legendary energy. The other was The Skyburner's Oath, a great sword containing a large sum of the knight's awesome power.

ᛏᚺᛖ ᚱᚢᚾᛖ ᛟᚠ ᚠᚱᛖᛖᛞᛟᛗ, the Great Rune of Freedom

In days of yore, the males of the Arcane Lineage were doomed to perish upon their very birth, and those who did survive were often frail and infirm. Yet when Lady Amelia bore child, Lord Balkyth and Sugawara no Michizane, the God of Learning, set forth on a quest to forestall the demise of his son. Their aim was to locate one of The Furthark Great Runes, the Great Rune of Freedom so that Balthazar might break free from this blight. But they were destined to clash with HERMOD, one of the Aesir Gods, who also coveted the Rune, and vanquish him, thereby incurring the wrath of his Valkyries and the Allfather. HERMOD had previously fought and slain the sage Haji Josefumi for the Great Rune, as he too sought to sever the chains of fate.
Upon the birth of Balthazar, the Great Rune was bestowed upon him, granting him the power to shatter the curse that had for ages haunted his forebears and to live on. The Great Rune, it is said, endows its bearer with liberty from all forms of captivity or hindrance, and it may be the very reason why Balthazar was able to sunder the Chains of Fate, a quest that even the All-Father had sought to undertake. But let it be known that the Great Rune cannot be sundered from Balthazar's grasp, save for his untimely demise or the exchange of the Rune for another of its peers.

Dhelnir, the Swiftly Departed

Dhelnir is a Phantom Steed from the Fields of Basil and one of the foals of Sleipnir, the Phantom Steed of Godwyn the All-Knowing. Nowhere near as fast as her father, Dhelnir is a loyal and faithful companion of Sir Bālthazar. She bears six legs allowing her to move at incredible speeds and can run for days on end.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

The ruling House of Oalsafar was ruled by Queen Rorkokis Adramélekh and King-Consort Bālkyth Reris. Lord Bālkyth had a number of concubines he collected from various Realms on his adventures, and to one of these concubines, Tess Unbrooke, he sired his first-born and the 7th Arcane Lord, Bālwyn Unbrooke, much to the ire of the Queen who wanted the honor for her own heir. When King Bālkyth died, Tess removed herself from Oalsafar and the Queen's piercing eye, taking refuge in Midgard on the planet Mars. She became a master of spies, Amelia Skyburner, looking for employment with her infant son, Bālthazar.
Bālthazar grew up oblivious to his own heritage on the planet Mars under his Mother's close watch, fearful of losing another person she loved. He sought freedom from her monitoring and received it when a Realm Tear exposed the planet to Khaos Daemons. The planet fell within 12 Hours and Bālthazar was left the Last Son of Mars, along with death and decay. His agony brought forward the Aesoteric Flames, saving his life, and earning the attention of Maredudd the Unbreakable who sought to train him.

Education

Lady Skyburner purchased the services of Skáld Séraphine Hauet to educate Bālthazar in the fields of Philosophy, Literature, Arithmetic, Higher Reasoning, Science, and Technology, although he was a slow learner. When taken into The Order of the Dragon's Head, his education of Majik was conducted by Master Maredudd while his mastery over the blade was conducted by Sir Gonkuro Sakuma
Sir Bālthazar was later trained by Sugawara no Michizane, the God of Learning while stranded in Urasaki, The Pit of Darkness. Sugawara no Michizane taught him the fundamentals of sword logic Logic of the Swift Learned One, which greatly improved his combat abilities but more importantly his Understanding of the Blade. His final teacher of the blade was Sword St. Mtupeni Uba, a slayer of celestials who was famed to have cut down 500 thousand foes during a siege in the 1st Great War, all without drawing her sword. Sir Bālthazar clashed steel with her for seven days and seven nights, wherein he eventually bested her, forcing her to surrender her weapon, The Honored Regal Blade, Amenhotep III, and her title of Sword St.
The Learner of Names, Maker of Kings, al-Hwet, was responsible for teaching Sir Balthazar the Word of Power "LEGENDARY", the 7th Word of the Seven-Part Name. al-Hwet and Balthazar isolated themselves within a Throne World with time distortions, where the Kingmaker meditated with the Knight and shared a lifetime of experiences from al-Hwet, teaching Balthazar the meaning of the word LEGENDARY in its entirety.

Mental Trauma

On his 16th birthday, Balthazar's mother was killed by Khaos Daemons, a grim sight he witnessed with his own eyes, powerless to aid her, all he could do was run to safety. The sight of her mangled and brutalized corpse still haunts his dreams as if it happened just yesterday. Needless to say, but Billy does not like to celebrate his birthday. Instead, he journeys to the ruined Mars and sits at the grave made for her.

Morality & Philosophy

Bill was trained by his Master to never draw his blade unless he is prepared to use it. The sword can be a weapon with which life can be taken or a tool by which lives can be saved. But it is not a form of intimidation or a fear-tactic. Bālthazar is a Knight, fear is the tool of the weak and cowardly.

Personality Characteristics

Vices & Personality flaws

"My doubt does not lie in Skybruner's sword logic, his reputation and marks of victory speak clearly and loudly enough. I doubt there are many here who would fancy a purely skill-based quarrel with him. No, I doubt his emotions. His successes are many, but so are his failures, in case the members of this Round Tabel are so quick to forget the lessons of Tanith? ... he leads with his heart and fails to yield on matters pertaining to it."
Bālthazar is often described as too emotional and quick to unreasonable reactions when his loved ones are concerned. Such emotions can help a warrior in the heat of battle, but failure to tame your emotions allows them to rule over you. He exercises no such control and becomes irrationally stubborn in them.

Religious Views

Sir Bālthazar has killed Gods before. Golden Gods and brilliant gods, deities worthy of praise and Gods deserving of wrath. In his travels, he has come to only distinguish Gods from Mortals by their ability to return from death. Traditionally speaking, Knights of Camelot are not very religious anyway. They are associated with The Cult of the Dragon Worshipers but even the Dragon Cultists do not worship Dragons but revere them as sacred creatures. Faith can blind you to the truth, and thus he does not indulge.

History

Bālthazar first met Mirjam at his Knighting Ceremony, her family, the Frey Clan, was chosen to make armor for the Arcane Lord and she was tasked with completing the job. Their relationship only expanded through the years as Bālthazar would often retrieve rare and valuable minerals and materials for the ever-curious Mirjam.

Their relationship did suffer much stress when Bālthazar was believed to have been killed by the Green Knight. When recovering, Bālthazar was broken, both mentally and physically, and his spirit was defeated, making him difficult to work in such a depressed state. However, Mirjam stayed to help him recover, constructing a robotic arm to replace the right arm he lost to the Green Knight in battle.
When Mirjam and Bālthazar retired, they remained in Håndverk, The World Forge to lead the Frey Clan and had two children, Bāldrick and Bālephus.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

Both Billy and Mirjam both love to dance. Mirjam had always enjoyed it from childhood but Billy only took it up in an attempt to realign his Mind, Body, and Soul, taught by Mirjam. Even into their twilight years, they could be found slow dancing in their courtyard under the cool night sky.

History

Otsune encountered Balthazar in Urasaki after he was stranded with The Sword Saint Michizane Sugawara. She had seduced the defeated knight and laid with him to conceive a child bearing the Aesoteric Flames in the hopes of using it against her sister. Otsune vanished in the night and would never see Bill again.

Relationship Reasoning

Balthazar was still only a young man when he happened upon Otsune, a beautiful maiden who hid her godhood to earn his attention.

Wealth & Financial state

Sir Bālthazar is royalty twice over, through his father's lineage, Bālkyth Reris-Oalsafar. House Reris of the Hunt paid tribute to him after each Hunt. This tribute mainly consisted of plundered riches, tribute paid to House Reris, and treasure worth millions of ∐ Hosar in their weight.   Obelisk Queen Bāltyrious recognized her half-brother as a Duke and thus he also received tribute as a Royal-Blood of House Oalsafar. This tribute was much more spread out, containing the spoils of wars waged across the Realms and tribute paid from lesser lords and ladies.   All of his riches would be consolidated to The Frey Clan of Stormfall after his marriage to Kell Undrin Mirjam. It was combined with the spoils of Frey lords from the past and used to finance the expensive restoration of Mars, The Red-Light District. Because Mars was a trade hub, when Sir Bill became Lord over it, his passive income only increased with time.
