Pitts, South
The territory of South Pitts extends dangerously far into the maelstrom. The storm creates a fog over this area, becoming increasingly dense as one ventures into its southern most parts. The further one goes into the Pitts, the stronger the maelstrom's hold over them becomes. Anyone stupid enough to spend any amount of time in this part of the Rocpocalpyse starts to slowly lose their grip on reality. Most, if not all, come to forget that the world fell apart half a century ago and try to live like nothing changed. Those who have seen these lost souls say they look blissful or even high. Some wonder if losing your sanity for a dose of happiness is even a bad trade off in this messed up world, until they watch one of these people eat their own finger while calling it "the most delicious corn on the cob" they've ever had.
A few do manage to break the spell, though. It's not known how or why they do. Once free of the illusion they flee to the north, if they can escape the maelstrom's wrath. Going to the west into Henry Ettas East isn't an option - on the day of the apocalypse the earth split just east of the Henry Etta's border, creating huge crevices (one so large people describe it as close to a canyon as they'll ever see), causing the westernmost region of South Pitts to be uninhabitable. Some say this is where the region gets its namesake, while others swear up and down that it's the musty armpit of the Rocpocalypse and is named as such. Maybe the western side isn't so bad, though. The maelstrom doesn't extend this far into the territory, likely because there are little to no souls for it to claim.
While there's still somewhere to go in the west, the south and east are absolutely not options. Leaving South Pitts this way just sends you further into the maelstrom and into uncharted territory. Even the bravest souls of the Rocpocalypse refuse to go beyond the known borders. For many, this means that escaping to the north is the only option. The only problem is actually crossing the border into the safe territory; many of North Pitt's own inhabitants shut out refugees attempting to cross into their land.
Because of the fog and the storm, the area remains shrouded in mystery for many. There are remnants of suburbia left standing, but the citizens are too oblivious to do upkeep on these buildings. There are still some with strong structural integrity still standing, though most have crumbled and collapsed into piles of bricks and roof tiles. Besides the cracks in the ground in the west, the only other feature of note in common knowledge are the ponds and lakes scattered across the inhabited zones of the area. Some have relics of the past near them, clearly indicating they were there before all hell broke loose. But others seem just a few years old. Either way, they're certainly convenient for the disillusioned folks who create settlements around them. Which explains how they get water, but where does the food come from? The maelstrom? Do they even eat? The only people that know have already surrendered their will to the storm.
Demographics
Everyone is equal in the maelstrom's eyes, as long as you're under its spell. Unless you're not. Then tread lightly.
Government
The maelstrom is the ultimate power which should be listened to without question. The storm has hand selected citizens to become its enforcers, keeping a watchful eye out for anyone that has refused to accept the storm into their lives.
Industry & Trade
The people of this area have no need to trade for the essentials of life in the apocalypse because they are already provided for them, so trade for these items is not common here. Some run stores with tattered clothes or rusted tools, but ask for Pin-E's in exchange. Others have an incredible knack for finding relics of the old world and will happily share them with you...if you're one of them.
Infrastructure
The inhabitants tend to gather around bodies of water, so it's not uncommon to see irrigation systems running to larger settlements. Other than this, the people are content with what they already have and rarely construct new buildings.
History
While the rest of the world was running, screaming, crying for their Mommas, dying, or a combination of the four, the people of the Pitts seemed oddly at ease. Life continued as normal while the rest of the world fell apart around them. As time passed, it continued to fall apart as man-made structures crumbled and springs of water erupted from the ground to create new lakes and ponds.
Geography
To the west are large rifts in the ground that make it near impossible to traverse that area of the district. Scattered throughout the rest of the region are bodies of water (natural or otherwise) that inhabitants have flocked to and established settlements around. The fog keeps the environment humid and the ground a little damp, though not so much so that it becomes marshland. The area is surprisingly green, but not overtaken by the flora. Sparse fauna can be found as well, usually small rodents.
