Battle of Jaer River

The Battle of Jaer river was a battle that occurred between the Doric forces led by Marshal Osku of Pilkala and the Aijian forced led by Klenfeld Ermias of Cadlinz and Hedfeld Galdmer of Camenlin, the latter of whom arrived late to the battle. Though the battle is named after the river Jaer, the battle would primarily take place nearby the manor and monastery of Cadlinz which was perched upon a small hill overlooking the river crossing. The battle began once the forces of Marshal Osku were spotted by the garrison of Cadlinz who in reaction tried to take a position on the river to prevent the Doric force from crossing. The Doric forces, however, were quick and had crossed the river before Klenfeld Ermias could position his men effectively, this allowed Marshal Osku to use his cavalry to flank the slow-moving Aijian force which had abandoned the fortified position of Cadlinz. Unable to retreat back to Cadlinz due to the harrying of Doric cavalry, Ermias attempted to position his men in a defensive formation upon the hill but his men were quickly disillusioned by the advancing Doric billmen and volleys of their archers. This caused the Aijian forces to make a retreat to the nearby forest southwest of Cadlinz having sustained moderate casualties. Hedfeld Galdmer would then arrive at the battle and incorporate the forces of Klenfeld Ermias into his own. Marshal Osku would goad the Aijian forces into storming Cadlinz by faking a retreat, a two-man depth column of billmen exited the fortified manor grounds towards the river crossing. Taking the bait, Hedfeld Galdmer advanced his infantry towards Cadlinz while he and his cavalry would pursue the Doric Billmen column with an intention to flank them. As the Aijian infantry had nearly reached the summit where Cadlinz lay they were met by Doric cavalry which had sallied from behind the settlement, led by Marshal Osku. They inflicted great casualties upon the Aijian infantry which fled in disarray down the slope from the encounter, routing completely. The cavalry of Hedfeld Galdmer, which had been harassing the decoy billmen column, would be intercepted by Marshal Osku, leading to a melee between the two forces. Aided by the foot soldier of the decoy column, the Doric forces triumphed over their counterparts, capturing both Hedfeld Galdmer and Klenfeld Ermias. The capture of both Aijian commanders led to the withdrawal of the remainder of their forces.
