Therris
One of the last direct democracies that exist in the modern world. While many other nations have moved on to different ideologies like monarchy, this nation has held strong as a bastion for the voice of the common folk.
Structure
Therris is a military hegemony and meritocracy. The leader is generally rallied behind through a democratic vote put out through all the people's of Therris. The structure revolves around a central power called a president, and then the power structure breaks down into close advisors and then the general public. Each and every matter in Therris is decided on by the people, and the president is merely a figurehead that has very little power. The president of Therris can choose to veto an order but then the people of Therris can choose to re-vote and with a three-fourths majority still pass the order. The president is also expected to be military commander, but once again this role breaks down into being nothing more than a figurehead as the army is generally lead by several generals that have a standard military breakdown.
Culture
Therris moves at a snails pace compared to other countries. They are very far behind and stuck in tradition when it comes to magical items, technology, and infrastructure. Therris believes that hard work, determination and community are more important than finding the "easy way" out as they call it. The use of technology beyond simple armor and siege technology they use is considered abhorrent. The use of magical items is just now surfacing as being acceptable due to a trade agreement put through by Dur.
Public Agenda
Outwardly they are seen as a defensive people's who want nothing more than to sit in their own location to be left alone. That being said, with the opening of trade and the influence that Fusilis and Galvaka have on Therris now, the window of their culture has been opened. As of 1770 a non-Therris citizen was elected to presidency. Athkar Therion, who has pushed that their deal with Galvaka and Fusilis was far too one-sided and that Therris should press Galvaka and Fusilis further to get a better deal. They also claim that Galvaka has been abusing it's isolationist ideologies and are committing crimes against their own people. They have sent word to Galvaka to allow Therris to have an embassy in their country, but have not heard back yet.
Assets
Therris is seated in the drylands, and most of their larger cities are within Arid lands. That being said the capital and Alderney are seated within small deltas that lead rivers from mountains far into the arid landscapes. Their farming is generally based on the flooding cycles of the rivers they're seated on. Their major assets are their beautiful architecture that rivals new age tech using traditional methods. They trade readily with Vive to gain most of their food and supplies in exchange they offer Vive military support and trade routes directly with them.
History
Therris was founded by nomadic groups that eventually found their way to the deltas and picked up agriculture at around 327 CE. Their civilization has always been democratic with a focus on communal support for those that pull their weight. They have had several wars with Galvaka and Fusilis during their time, most notably are: The First War between Fusilis and Therris in 352 CE, The Great War in 500 CE that involved Fusilis and what would become Galvaka, The Halka Conflict(named after the president at the time) in 1576 CE, and finally the War of the Burning Sun in 1600 CE. These conflicts were almost always started by outsiders of Therris, and Therris joined the conflict purely as a peacekeeping/defensive entity. The exception to that would be the War of the Burning Sun in which Fusilis roped Therris in at a technicality due to a treaty they had to honor written in the Halka Conflict. Halka himself was considered a failed president at the time, and accepted terms that would most Therrisians think should have been renegotiated. Alderney was settled after the First War as a military outpost to help protect Therris's Capital, Oria, from direct attack.
Territories
Much of the food that Therris produces comes from a nation that was recently vasalized by them in the 1700's. Though Vive is not it's own country, Therris being democratic allows for a large swath of Vive's production to go uninhibited. Therris' trade with Nepta is primarily orchestrated through Vive and much of the food and coin exchanged there belongs to the Therrisian Empire.
Though Vasalized in February of 1800 Galvaka had a trade deal with Therris to outfit their armies with more magical weapons and armours after a deposit of crystal was found in Mount Heinios. This trade deal was then made into a codified law after the coup staged by Harold Whistler and Gotrek Gurnisson. After Harold became the first elected Mayor, the people decided to keep the agreement between the Therissian military and the city of Dür because the miners believed it would be a good way to keep local blacksmiths and other folks afloat.
