Neptis

Neptis was a kingdom that has been ruled over by a monarchy for hundreds of years. The kingdom went through a drastic change in the 1700s to most cities when a supporter of the church rose to power and mandated the worship of ancestral gods, and outlawed the worship of the primordial gods. Neptis has several lordships that all operate relatively independently of the capital. The capital itself oversees that the lords follow the monarch's wishes but leaves individual governance to the appointed lords of the area.

Structure

The land is ruled over directly by a monarch. The ranks of the Neptis line are, in descending order, Duke, Marquess, Viscount, and Baron. The Monarch sits above all of these as the ruler of the land.   During the era of the new gods, there were 2 Dukes, one who lives within Port Amphere and oversees the southern section of the kingdom. The other lives within Buord and oversees the northern section of the kingdom.   The northern Duke, Agna Korti, a dwarvish women descended from the original monarch held on to her dukedom by agreeing to take her position in the north, which is frequently raided by pirates. Below her are a viscount, and a baron (her son), Durgentar Korti who oversees the city of Leccer and the Marquess Olivia Reinhelt who oversees the township of Ohm.   The southern Duke, Besh Neji, is new and has embraced the religious order within the nation. He is a Gnome who recently took the Dukedom after their distant relative Aerel took the kingship and due to Besh's support as the marquess of the marque they were elevated to a duke. Below them are a viscount, and two marquess. One is the Marquess of Astran, which was given as a reward to a war hero, general elevated to Marquess. The war Hero's name was General Queralt Cionaodha. The other Marquess was a local of The Marque that made a deal with Besh during their time to elevate them to Marquess should Besh take a higher role, who goes by the name Kel Ik. This makes the southern lands much more influential in the house of lords than the north of the kingdom due to the south having more border friction.

Culture

The storm magistrates are a mixture of air and fire. While they are passionate and deeply driven, they are also outwardly expressive and lofty. Their culture shifts and changes dramatically and the politics of the region are always shifting as people push and scrape for power. Their current relations with any other nations are shown in their isolationists views. They generally do very little trading with any nations, and only just recently allowed the great continental railroad to even be built near their land. They are quick to embrace new ideas but also quick to disavow new ideas and go for more "tried and true" methods. They are a culture of contradictions.

Public Agenda

Their agenda is to be left alone and to focus inward on their own spirituality, they are a xenophobic spiritual nation to the extreme. Their land is some of the least developed due to several marquess not working to form the land, but the current monarch wants to form the new land to suit their needs and potentially use it to start building up a more sizable military.

Assets

While they have strained relations with Fusilis due to an endless war that has been in stalemate the last 500 years, they do mine the mountains of their southern border. They have a plethora of ocean that is used to gather seafood as well as a large port that supports a large naval force. Their lumber is some of the best in the land, and they have some of the most fertile soils. They have a very small military and rely primarily on each individual baron or marquess to handle individual matters of raising armies.

History

Since their creation, they have waged resource wars against the country of Fusilis. Their southern border is one of the most contested areas and the mining encampments have been made temporary due to constant invasions from the south. That being said, the war has been spotty the past 500 years, and the current elvish monarch would like to see the war start back up after their land has been made useful in the southern marque. They are currently performing a facade of "peacetime talks" with Fusilis that they have no intention of going through with.   Nepta started as a democratic republic that formed when several tribes formed coalitions or "houses" that voted on matters for their tribe that would affect each tribe. This slowly came into a more and more complex system which required a "head of state" to take control at times. One such leader, Aurien Qinfana, was voted in during the year 565, and stayed in the head of state position for 250 years. This severely changed the culture and form that the government took, as the government slowly morphed into a monarchy where Aurien appointed dukes and lords to take care of certain areas. This led the nation to developing into a monarchy later into Qinfana's rule, at around 700 CE. Aurien was in control until 700 CE where a blight hit the crops around Neptis, and she was unable to properly ration food for the commoners. This led to mass starvation of commoners while nobles used their wealth and influence to trade outside of the country. This started the rebellions and freedom fighters commonly called anarchists in this kingdom. The only saving grace for the kingdom was a cleric named Boram Jamir who was a part of the clergy who offered a solution to the problem at hand. Jamir had found a way to extract raw energy to help increase crop yields and used this invention to garner influence with the people. Jamir was elevated from Duke to Monarch by Qinfana in exchange for the Qinfana noble line to keep their lineage as barons or Marquess.   There are still several "freedom fighters" that are alive during this time but they generally stay out of civilized areas due to Neptis's harsh rules on treason. Before the new monarch took over, the "straw that broke the camels back" was an uprising from the Telvanni freedom fighters that almost took root in Neptis in 1753 and caused Boram Jamir to be forced to step down so Aerel could take over. Aerel then worsened the punishments for Telvanni fighters that were caught and imprisoned, and had the leaders executed.
