Braun Family Manor

This manor stands atop the second level in the city of Dür, one of the original manor homes that was built in the founding of Dür. This manor is quite unusual and all throughout history it is very rare to see a member of the Braun household enter or leave their abode.

Purpose / Function

This manor acted as the house of the Braun family for centuries, and has several furnishings that ensured they'd rarely ever need to leave their homes. This was made partially as a way to keep the Braun family from the dangers of the city, but also to be a defensive settlement against those who would try and harm the family from Galvaka. Any entrance to this base has a magical barrier in front of it, the whole area around it is surrounded in an illusion spell, and without thinking the password will put you in a "false house" which lies in the basement of the area. This false house looks exactly like the first floor of the original Braun household built in 790, and much of it has been untouched since.

Design

Ground Floor

  • Greeting Room
The greeting room is a porch where there are several racks where coats would be hung up, or where weapons can be placed on weapon racks. On each weapon rack, there is a small piece of chalk with which the spell "Lock" can be cast with even for non-casters. On the walls there are several tapestries of the Braun family crest as it changed throughout the years as well as two couches with a hookah between them.
  • Hallway
Past the greeting room there is a 60 foot hallway, with 4 doors to each side and a staircase at the end of it. The 1st door on the left 25 feet ahead leads to the living room, the door across from that leads to a dining room. Towards the end of the hall the other doors lead to the arcane workshop on the right, and the greenhouse on the left.
  • Living Room
This room is a 20 foot by 25 foot room with a two large paintings adorned at the far wall. The original Barons, Velqass and Culani (a gnome and Half-elf respectively), as well as the most recent Baron in the other painting. This room contains 4 velvet couches all facing inward towards a beautiful oaken table. There are several tea-sets and coffee presses on drawers lining the walls. With a few display cases full of fine porcelain dining-ware. In the far right hand corner there is a large tube looking device, what looks to be a phonograph.
  • Dining Room
The Dining room, across from the lounge has a large double door in the front of it, as well as double doors leading out of it. Behind the second double doors lies a kitchen area where servants would prepare food for the family. The dining hall contains a 30 foot table with 6 chairs on each side and a chair at each head of the table. The table is always adorned with beautiful silverware that is meticulously cleaned by the workers. The room has a beautiful stone-worked floor as well as wooden walls painted a deep blue.
  • Arcane Workshop
One of the largest parts of the ground floor, and scaling into the 1st floor this workshop usually houses the means to create several magical items, outfitted with the tools and supplies needed to etch runes into the armor. This workshop itself mostly deals with the etching and manufacturing of the magic items, not necessarily creating the base for those weapons. Within the shop there are usually several swords, armor, or other crafted items from Zach's Smithy.
  • Greenhouse
A small 25 ft by 25ft room with a plethora of plants within it. This greenhouse has 4 zones to it, a temperate zone, a desert zone, a tropical zone, and a transition zone. This greenhouse can be used to craft alchemist ingredients from the zones during downtime.

First Floor

  • Open Lounge
The stairs lead up to a small family gathering area with a coffee table similar to the one in the lounge downstairs. There are several bookshelves with local and worldly novels that depict anything from philosophy to fiction. On each wall to the left and right there are singular doors, the center of the room is met with a spiral staircase, and the far back wall has double doors that lead to the master bedroom.
  • Master Bedroom

  • Arcane Workshop
The workshops addition into the 1st floor connects to the master bedroom that the barons would sleep within. This floor contains a set of greater crafter's lens and work outfits that the baron would use in the workshop.
  • "Guest Rooms"

Second Floor

Attic

This space is a crawlspace designed primarily for servants to place their belongings and overflow storage as needed. There is absolutely nothing of interest in this area.

Basement

The basement contains storage of perishable goods, as well as a plethora of supplies needed for everyday operations. In the far corner there is a small hatch that leads into the dungeons. (see Roll20 Map)

Alterations

The Braun family manor has been updated every few centuries to include some more "up to date" furnishings. That being said, it's actual structure has remained the same since it's build date of 790.

Architecture

This manor is a large limestone building, with shingled rooftops. The doors are made of what looks to be an alloy between adamentine and mithral, with small viewing ports that are open-able from the inside only. Indoors of the family manor are adorned and decorated with portraits of past barons and their families, as well as lined wall to wall with books of fiction. Each room has at least one bookshelf in it stacked full of books, and there are plenty of cozy places to find a place to read.

History

This building was one of the oldest manors that had been built, as the Braun families purpose when settling Galvaka was to tend to the need of feeding people in Galvaka. This meant that their manor was one of the first things to be built, and the first things that got commissioned. The people of Galvaka had originally been mountain dwelling folk, and carving out a city within a mountain was no new feat, but the feat was building one in a ravine this large.   To help, the original Braun Baron, Orville Braun, a great mage of their time, helped using arcane magics lost to history. It is said that Orville was the person who created the illusion spell that exists over the Manor entrance.
