Australia
“Australians have a free spirit and an ability to think outside the box, and that is why I like Australia so much.” – Brian Schmidt
Australia was one of the countries that truly defined the new ideals the Commonwealth would embody well into the 21st Century, It started as a British Colony that illegally declared the Land mass as Tera Nilhus and the subsequent colonisation would create a nation that would spend much of its life developing under the British crown, unlike America, It defined itself through service and concepts of honour and fairness which would slowly transform the country over the course of a century. It is also one of the oldest countries in the world, as the Aboriginal Peoples were the first nation peoples and their legacy long precedes the Colonial Legacy of this Nation.
By the 2020s, Australia became increasingly disturbed by the overall trajectory of America, Russia and China. Many leaders came to understand that they were dealing with a situation where they would be standing alone. So alongside with Japan, Australia pushed for the creation of the Pacific Democratic League and supported Britain in its attempts to democratize and undo Colonial Damages to the world in the service of building up an international coalition strong enough to see them all into the future.
Though this mission was ill-fated for a myriad of reasons, Australia before it's refounding into a Republic after World War 3, became an Icon and Inspiration to its neighbours through service, dignity and overcoming its worst instincts as best it could as quickly as it could for the sake of Humanity. That said, Australia wasn't truly the economically well-developed giant it is by the 2070s just yet. Indeed, it had gone through long and painful eras of Segregation, discrimination, crippling corruption, suffocating political Apathy and being strangled by the inherent flaws in the Westminster System.
It was also very much a classically disarmed nation, having gone from near subpar security to one of the stronger Pacific powers in a short time, it was also previously infamous for fairly negligent policies to its neighbours with the average citizen knowing little about the countries just next door. Of course, Australia was also infamously passionately holding onto the White Australia Policy for much of its existence. This is why it was so important for the Pacific for Australia to become a responsible, its position in the Pacific enabled it to uniquely strike out against invaders and become an integral part of the internal security and ensure that even if parts of the pacific fell, it could continue the fight.
They were also the Pacific's only true source of Uranium which in the post-2020s world is integral to staying competitive on the energy market and for operating advanced Technological warfare. THeir vast space and vacancy also made it an easy pick to filter Refugees too and be capable enough to generate enough labour opportunities to offset the strain mass Refugee migration could cause.
They also had one of the more developed countries rivaled by New Zealand, Indonesia and of course, the Philippines itself. The increasing population, Military strength, Civil and Militant output and finally power projection with it's fleet and aid of multiple pacific partners, they were able to create a powerful network of nations.
Unfortunately, fate had other ideas for the Fate of Australia and it's allies, Australia as we knew it came to a violent and bloody end at the hand of Russia and China through nuclear fires and mass detonations as well as multiple high profile terror attacks. Yet from the ashes, like their neighbours, they rose from the ashes anew with a new and far clearer vision of what they must do.
Government & Culture
Australia never quite chased the idea of Republication, instead Australia at this era was foreseeing the continuation of the Parliamentary Consitutional Monarchy that had existed prior but under new more responsible management, of course History had different intentions. Australia is a interesting country, it is a mish mash of multiple conflicting ideas and desires that cannot usually cohabitate but Australia tries anyway. By the Mid 2020s, the Government underwent a series of massive changes at a scale never seen before, the idea was to discourage corruption and keep the Govenrment focused on the task of Survival rather then profit as it had been for many decades. This was facilitated by a series of Coalition governments with some good terms and other seriously botched ones but with the end goal of turning the nation into one that survives. Multiple referendums were held during this time which saw the creation of the Bill of Dignities which help bound the government to certain standards . Mutliple acts which transformed the bureaucracy and resource acquisition fields of government and finally, the process of passing laws so the Parliament could be quicker and more efficient in their replies.Military & Security
The Australian Military was already a small but quality force before the 2020s and was built mainly to supplement NATO Missions and Support the British Armed Forces, it didn't have the special tech of its era but after 2021, Australian High Command imagined a scenario where they had to fight a world war alone. So rather than being dependent, Australia became determined to be a Force to be reckoned with. Modernisation included several Upsizes and Mission Statement changes that would give a reason for Youth to join. Australia adopted a wide array of technologies and techniques that would cheapen the cost of a modern army, rather than having to buy everything, they would start building more things, their own guns, vests, robots, you name it. They desired a large fleet which could project much power so the acquisition or creation of Nuclear Submarines and Carriers that would enable a smaller fleet to do more with less, while they'll never reach the sheer numbers of their enemies, they can make themselves seem as they do. When it came to soldiers, Maximisation was the key focus, every soldier had to be given the latest in military hardware for maximum precision and impact. They needed to be deployed afar and at home so they had various staff reforms that expanded and also cut redundancies in the command structure. They opened up the Gender Gap, Race Gap and every other form of gap to maximise commitment and membership in service. It wasn't uncommon for the soldiers to stylise themselves as the new Anzacs, especially as some found themselves fighting a losing war in the Middle east against the march of Fate and Ruin. Finally, in the air, Australia wanted the finest in Aircraft technologies, basing their designs on the technologies found in the F-35 and F-22, Australia began producing it's own Matilda Series aircraft that would would become the icon of the Australian Airforce well into the future."Advance Australia Fair!"
