Nartok
A small city near the border of Darkon that controls the Vuchar River and the King's Highway, making it a target in the Dead Man's Wars. As a result of these attacks, the town is divided into two sections: inside the walls is Old Town and outside lies New Town. Old Town is marked by "cultured" folk and old families who have lived in the area since the town's founding. New Town, meanwhile, contains all the recent arrivals and thus has a large concentration of dwarves and halflings. This divide has lead to almost two entirely different towns being formed right next to each other.
Old Town
Entrance into Old Town is a difficult affair overall. Only those the residents feel can be "trusted" are allowed in and the not-so-secret criteria is simply being human and holding a noble title or enough gold to convince the guard you could hold one somewhere. To further the issue, most of the governing body for the city is inside the walls here, neatly preventing the vast majority of New Towners from ever having their voices heard. This section of town is heavily policed by both undead and living, keeping crime and trouble behind closed doors. Those who cause even the slightest racket will often find themselves thrown out into New Town, unable to reenter ever again.New Town
Here is found all the poorer and more down-to-earth people of Nartok, halflings and dwarves in equal measures with a sprinkling of humans. Where there isn't a lumber mill or home can be found a tavern or brewery full to the brim with tired workers and lower level merchants grumbling over the actions of Old Town. Only undead police the area and, as the perceptive abilities of a zombie aren't exactly legendary, much crime goes on right under their noses with the ones who can get away with the most in closest proximity to a member of the Kargat getting the most respect from the rest of New Town.Demographics
The city is largely made up of humans, but dwarves and halflings have been moving into the city in large numbers to get jobs as craftsmen in light of the Second Dead Man's War and the damage done to the city.
Government
A mayor of sorts heads a council of merchants based in Nartok Town Hall.
Defences
Tall, thick walls surround the oldest section of the city.
Industry & Trade
As a major trade hub that sits near a river, Nartok has a large lumber operation centered in New Town as well as a booming business providing services to those moving up and down the river.
History
As the closest to the "border" between Darkon and Falkovnia, it bears the brunt of Vlad Drakov's misguided attempts to enlarge his domain (see First Dead Man’s War, Second Dead Man's War, and Third Dead Man's War).
