Session 17: Plans, Planes, and Postulations

General Summary

An RP-heavy lore dump and theory crafting session!
At The Lodge, Emelia and Calloway spoke to Furn, who wanted them to do some more sexy work so she could make exciting issues of Shorewatch. Calloway tactfully restrained Emelia from revealing sensitive information. Klaus Iverfort and Fionne were also there; Klaus said his father had prohibited him from going into the cave system and closed off the entrance to the cave nearest to the Castle. Emelia promised to help form a new secret passage, maybe even from Klaus's room inside the castle.
When they rejoined Leaf and SNTR-1, the group started theory crafting. Is the Baron a warlock of Chelor? Is Chelor connected to the invasion and infestation of the caves? Is it some side effect of Chelor's re-emergence as an active power in Lient'roc? Is is simply Chelor's long imprisonment drawing the power to this area or is he actually involved? Does the Baron know anything about what's going on at all? Are the statements from Leaf's "father" in the dream trying to prevent the Coast Guard from interfering? What, if anything, does Chelor have to do with Ylmyo-Aldon?
Leaf and Emelia have the same dream about the door several times over the course of the week, and have the opportunity to progress or resist. When they progress, something comes through the door and stares with massive burnt orange eyes. If they resist, they run back to the Machine and feel sure it doesn't work. They experiment a bit with casting spells in the dream, to various Wild Magic results.
  Dream Descriptions
Progressing: Strands of pale fishing line fibers creep from behind the door, pulling the vastness of the space beyond into and around you, moving blindly but with purpose, like the tube-feet of a starfish. Huge bulbous orbs pop through the door and as you stare, horrified, they swivel to direct their gaze at you, glaring through massive empty pupils, dark caverns in a burnt orange iris.
Resisting: You begin to run – to run as far from that place as you possibly can, screaming until your throat fills with the blood in your head, your head now an empty globe while the rest of you drowns in blood. And still it makes no difference, because you are back in that place with the slugs and the skulls and the pale dreamers and the machine that doesn’t work, it doesn’t work...

The next morning, the group debriefed Captains Gherd and Caydense, telling them almost everything -- with the exception of Jaysennia's suspicions about the Baron. Gherd tells them that since Kyrion isn't working for Lord Understone anymore, he isn't useful to him. The group decides not to take him up on his offer to find more Spugs, but makes sure to send a doctor or cleric. Kyrion's Conch is a Conch of Teleportation, but there's no way to know where it goes without using it. Khalog, the Gith living in Lient'roc, has innate plane-shifting abilities that would be useful for the CG's potentially extraplanar journey, and should hopefully arrive in Port Shimmerly within 2 days of the next shift, if the group can convince him to come with them. In the meantime, the CG is tasked with keeping the caves safe at night as the Gutters may become unruly when they realize their source of Gutpunch isn't around.

TLDR:

Emelia & Calloway socialize. Emelia & Leaf have some more bad dreams. The Captains get debriefed. Secrets are traded.

New Info/Items:

  • SNTR-1 works with Eidella to make air filtration devices for the trip
  • New info about the plague's spread across planes
  • Astral Remnants
  • Moonmilk (Item Card)
  • Summary Cont.

Ixul’ichl’d appears in the CG Mansion one morning. They trade him for secrets, and he gives them a bone they can use to summon him if they learn things he could use in exchange for the results of an invetsigation they clued him into. The CG learned:
  • The Gith call the creatures as a whole Mushroom Dwellers
  • The infestation continues to spread through the Astral Sea
  • The incursion has spread to the Feywild and Shadowfell, but appears to not be doing well in the latter
  • The "infection" on the Material Plane is the fastest, possibly because it is a key structure in the planar system (see World Axis Cosmology)
  • The Elemental Realms are as yet unaffected
  • The blue dust found on Dominhall's things that was used in making Gutpunch and on Ix's bones is Astral Remnants. It's basically broken fragments of many planes that exists between the planes; it is useful in divination and teleportation between planes because it provides a material focus for practically every plane of existence at once
