Personal history

She grew up in the Wyldlands. The Sol Scala have a strong sense of community. She began to study the ways of monster hunters at the age of 7 - learning how to focus efforts on hunting and defeating a single tough opponent. Unfortunately, a few years later, thousands of warforged appeared in the wyldlands.   The Sol Scala was unprepared for such an event and relied heavily on the Army of the Wylds to survive the ordeal. Because of this, they decided to send a several volunteer families to various places around Pallo to study and bring back knowledge to help the tribe be better prepared for large scale catastrophe. Gorgon's family volunteered and set out for Qakar.   Her two brothers and sister found fields to study rather quickly, but she didn't quite know what to do. Eventually her parents found the Junior Naval Academy. To 12 year old Gorgon, this seemed the logical choice. Ships are like big wooden monsters, and sailors tell tales of epic monsters so that would be the most logical. At the age of 16 she graduated the academy and attended the Qakari Officer School.   She was excited through training as the navy seemed to be a tight-knit community. She was quickly disillusioned as an ensign, seeing the camaraderie was not as deep as she anticipated. But, once she was aboard a ship and given a post, she thrived. That was where the true community was she sought.   With distinguished service she promoted early to lieutenant. Her combat prowess help ward off boarding adversaries. She became popular amongst the enlisted crew members and often made rounds to chat and keep up morale.   Soon after her promotion she was assigned to the Colossus. The admiral hoped her skill and reputation would help the Colossus able to turn the tide of the war. Her effect on the crew definitely seemed to be just what they needed. The admiral began winning engagements. Gorgon was hailed a hero and an omen of victory.   She enjoyed the praise but didn't understand the reason. She didn't think the battles were all that difficult and wondered if it really would have been any different were she not there.   The admiral talked to her about going on the offensive, trying to take their momentum and starting to turn the war in their favor. She began training crew members for combat and boarding enemy ships. After several months of training and preparing, a new first mate was brought aboard - Captain von Hafn.   The two became fast friends. They were both heros in the eyes of the crew, but she appreciated his talents as a leader and tactician, areas where she felt she needed the most improvement. With little time to talk during the preparations they used sparring as a chance to talk and strategise. She was impressed at how skilled he was as a fighter, but she won all of the duels. Each time she admired him more because he was always gracious in defeat. She observed his style and techniques, adding useful maneuvers to her skill set.   The victories kept rolling, and the crew got several chances to utilize their training. With Gorgon leading them into battle they crew were able to capture a dozen ships. These victories would be short lived.   A massive fleet ambushed them. Baron tried to order a retreat but the admiral could see only glory. Barrage after barrage slammed the Colossus. Gorgon watched as Baron was hit, ragdolling across the deck. She ran to him and saw his left arm had been torn off by a cannonball. She carried him below decks to be treated and returned above to fight. As she reached the surface enemies began pouring onto the deck. She was able to lead the crew in a valiant defense and kept the Colossus from being captured. Each time it broke free, it was tied up in another boarding. Before long, it was clear to the admiral that the battle was a decisive defeat.   Gorgon managed to force a retreat from another boarding ship and signaled to the admiral to hoist the white flag. The enemy ships relented, allowing the remnants of the battered fleet to return home. During the slow limp home after such a crushing defeat, Gorgon spent much of her days checking in on Baron and the other wounded sailors.   Once they arrived back, she checked in on Baron frequently. The admirality called the officers to court one by one to discuss the crushing defeat. The admiral was the first to testify, though what he said was known only to him and the admirality. When she was called to testify, it was clear that he had put the blame on Baron. Gorgon was calm and thorough in her testimony, providing important details from a more direct perspective. The admirality seemed convinced that there was no malice, but she and captain von Hafn were most responsible for mixed messages and delaying response.   Disappointed at their assessment, she returned to her training and visitations. Judgement and punishment would not be delivered until Baron recovered and was able to testify. He woke up two weeks later. She helped him get to his testimony a few days later - he was given enough time to be semi-mobile and required to testify and return to the hospital. He did not hide his emotions as he left his hearing. Gorgon felt betrayed by people she thought were supposed to maintain this community. She comiserated with Baron about feeling betrayed and undervalued. Even though they received only a small demotion, the fact that they were punished for the failures of a superior officer did not sit well with her: especially since he received no such punishment and was already back out on the sea.   In time, their new assignment, the Golden Harpy, had arrived to pick them up. They came aboard as close friends, and their heroic status was celebrated by the crew. Gorgon befriended the crew while Baron worked with the captain and planned. The crew supported them, and as word spread of how they were treated, many sailors shared their own stories that lead to their disillusionment. It all came to a head while dealing with a pirate ship attacking a trade vessel. Baron and Gorgon initiated a mutiny and took over the Golden Harpy. They captured the pirate ship and gave them an offer: they can go free if they return the sailors who did not wish to defect from the Qakari navy back to Qakar. They agreed and took the loyal crew members back to Qakar.   While the rest of the Qakari sailors eventually left to pursue other ventures, Gorgon has remained as Baron's first mate and friend. Together, they make a powerful team. Their friendship is the most important thing to her and she hopes to be able to introduce him to her tribe.
