Transmuter
A transmuter is a magic user who specializes in the transmutation school of magic, or the art of altering the properties of energy and matter.

Qualifications
With the exception of certain principals of druidic magic (more typically expressed through the Elvish element gwyar than with the word "transmutation"), dedicated transmuters are always practitioners of learnéd magic. Alchemical training is sometimes, though not always, a gateway into proper study of transmutation. Elements of the principals of transmutation are also present in the work of many artificers. Far and away, though, it is wizards who study transmutation more than anyone else.

Like most types of magic user, transmuters require arcane foci. Since the magic required to transform an item or creature must be drawn from somewhere, the arcane focus of a transmuter (most typically a staff, occasionally a wand) frequently loses its effectiveness over time. Most advanced transmuters will have a Wellspring in their study to mitigate this effect.
Provided Services
Perhaps more than any other class of wizard, transmuters provide a number of valuable services to society outside of battle magic and arcane study. Civilian uses of transmutation magic include, but are by no means limited to:
- Performing the Tenser's Trueself ritual, which grants transgender people the body and presentation that best aligns with the gender of their soul.
- Crude shaping of large swaths of stone, metal, or other materials for artisans to more easily work with during large projects
- Enhancing someone with supernatural abilities (such as flight or exceptional speed) to allow them to perform a job more effectively
- Neutralizing hazards from natural disasters or monstrous sources by altering the potentially harmful material
- Animating objects or unseen forces to assist with everyday tasks
