Archmage
An archmage is a member of the elite upper echelon of all wizards. There are no more than a handful of wizards highly regarded enough to universally be called archmages in any given generation, and they are some of the most widely respected figures in history both during and after their lifetimes.
Qualifications
To be considered an archmage, one must study magic for a minimum of twelve years and have mastered at least one school of magic, ideally more.
Requirements
One is typically not referred to as an archmage unless they have been working in a magical profession for several decades, and discovered a major new magical species or property or invented at least a handful of widely used spells.
