Diviner

A diviner is a Wizard skilled in the art of divination magic. Their duties include prediction of future events, interpretation of prophecies, scrying and dreamgranting, and post-resurrection readings. Divination is almost always a learnéd magic, though sorcerers who draw power from the Zodiac can also have innate potential as diviners.; most diviners are thus arcane. A few gods, such as Morigana of the Wild Dynasty and Achlys of the Olympian Dynasty are more likely to grant divination powers to their holy casters.

Career

Qualifications

Diviners typically study at wizard colleges for a minimum of four years, though most diviners who gain official positions have studied for at least seven. The most highly renowned divination programs are at the Wizarding University of the Aquatic Kingdom, Scalados University, and Hildegard University.

Career Progression

Diviners freshly out of training typically work freelance. Many make a living wandering between towns that lack the size or wealth for a full-time town diviner to survive. Young diviners also pen and publish their own prophecies; a particularly elaborate or specific prophecy that proves true can net a diviner significant fortune and renown.   Diviners who have found consistent success are often hired by nobles, town governments, militaries, or trading companies to make regular predictions on pertinent matters: weather, elections, markets for goods and services, etc. Among the wealthiest elite, it is not uncommon to have a personal diviner on one's staff at least part-time.

Operations

Tools

Most diviners use orbs or crystals as their primary spell focus. Orbs can be used to scry into, but for a clearer picture many prefer a scrying-glass, a type of enchanted mirror. Decks of tarot cards or Lenormand cards are common as both a conduit of magic and an interpretation tool.   Magical items that grant or enhance divination powers typically feature sapphire, the stone of insight and intuition. Diviners often wear sapphire jewelry to enhance their powers.
