Fool's Tome
A Fool's Tome is the formal name for the book that a Fool of the Fey is caught writing in by an archfey. Typically, only one copy exists of the information in any given Fool's Tome, as the books rarely leave their owner's sight. However, the fools themselves do not and cannot know the information in their own tome; it exits their mind upon writing in the book or upon their conscription as fools, whichever comes latest.
Fool's Tomes typically outlast their owners. An incredibly small number of these documents have made their way back to the Material Plane and are prized for their informational and historical value.
Known Tomes
The following is an incomplete list of known tomes from Fools past and present, as discovered by planewalkers and wargraves who encounter the Fools for long enough to learn about them.- The Book of Tales (Vanya Robustin): A collection of epic poems and morality plays about encounters between mortals and fey. Many of these have been transcribed in the Material Plane and published or performed.
- The Book of Days (Sen): An intimate record of Sen's life, with the earliest entries dated January Y926. The entries are addressed as letters to an unknown "G." Towards the end of the book is a jumble of mysterious words believed to be the true names of the archfey.
- The Book of Visions (Isabella Giocoso): Unusually for a Fool's Tome, this book contains not written language but images, primarily in charcoal sketch and watercolor, of various locations and scenes from the Feywild. The Summer Court is best represented, but a few images exist of locations throughout. A rough, unlabeled map of the Feywild is also included.
- The Book of Love: This is the tome left behind by the Sentimental Fool when he was disintegrated by Oberon. The Sentimental Fool was a troubadour who collected all the love songs he could find in the Feywild, including songs telling of love between archfey and between fey and mortals.
Properties of a Bound Tome
The Fool bound to the tome loses all memory of anything written within it immediately. Over the course of their service, they often slowly lose the ability to remember entire categories of information as written in the tome. A Fool's Tome counts as part of the bound Fool's body for the purpose of most spells, including Resurrection spells. In the case of resurrection spells that do not restore or create missing body parts, such as Revivify, the Fool's Soul is permanently bound within the tome, creating a sentient magical item. Archfey Regnants will usually not bother to fully dismiss the Fool in these instances, unless there is risk of the tome being stolen; rather, they keep the tome in a safe place and appoint another successor instead.

This is intriguing - I need to read the article about the Fools next. I like how different the content of the listed tomes is. I'd love to have a closer look at the Book of Visions and the Book of Tales.

I should ABSOLUTELY start publishing some Book of Tales stuff on here. I've got drafts hanging around somewhere...
