The Child – Episode 9

The fate of the princess is decided.

Alizabeth plummeted through the trees, grappling a pair of elven rangers. As once, all three impacted the ground with a sickening sound. The life is dashed from all three – until, against all odds, the flesh golem lurched. She was still alive, after a hundred feet of fall, and she bellowed her rage.   High on the palace walkways, Dr. Hughbert giggled with glee – his beloved lived! He once again repeated his desire for the villains to flee. Agnoment, resuscitated by the Doctor’s arts, shrouded themselves in necrotic energy and frightened away the remaining rangers. Held at swordpoint, Erick Idylvain was interrogated about who he worked for but managed to slip away before revealing too much. When the Queen stopped Desdemonia, it was the charmed King who convinced his wife to let her and the child leave the nursery and off she went.   After a brief battle on the bridge, in which a grievously wounded Alizabeth lurched up from below to join them, the villains were falling back – into the Bastion Tree and then into the Servant Tree. The high elven ambassador, whom Desdemonia glimpsed earlier, approached the party and informed them she’s truly an agent of Yog and here to help. Agnoment bought the party the moment they needed to escape, shrouding the king and queen of Cymbia in a globe of darkness and rejoining their companions.   A quick teleport spell whisked the five villains away, the screeching child in tow.   They reappear in the Greenguard Mountains on the lip of the fissure. Once the high elven ambassador departed again, the villains each, one by one, climbed into the essence of Yog – Desdemonia and the child, a sobbing Erick on hands and knees, the Doctor in Alizabeth’s arms and Agmoment in their lacuna.   Returned once more to the Spires of Yog, the Marked interacted briefly with the Vessel before the Black Star reclaimed Its hold over the supplicant elven wizard. Once the child was handed over to Yog, all her screaming stopped. That decrepit face, oozing black bile, suddenly creased into a smile.   “YOG BEFORE ALL” It croaked.
“All Hail Yog!” answered the villains.
