Craggen Flats

Blessings and curses of the boundless ocean.

Craggen Flats is a wide sandy tidal flat on the northern coast of Palawyr, which extends nearly two miles from the rocky coastal cliffs of the island before plummeting abruptly into the Fathomsfall Deep. At high tide, the entire area is submerged, but the sandy flats are seldom deep enough for a ship's keel, indeed, it is punctuated by the rotting wooden skeletons of the few which attempted it. Though it is inhospitable to the shipping trade, it's long been home to several small but thriving communities of oystermen and crab trappers who take advantage of the vast shallows to ply their trades.

Geography

A freshwater inlet feeds into a short, brackish marshland at the west end of the tide flats, which often entirely disappears at high tide. Lining the coast and looming above the flats are a series of high, broken cliff faces, battered by centuries of wind and surf. Several steep, narrow tracks wind upward into those cliffs, among which the people of the region often make their homes in harder seasons.

Fauna & Flora

Cracklefarde is home to countless marine animals, harboring scores of varieties of crustaceans, cephalo- and gastropodes, and a vast range of shellfish. Some 37 species of seaweed and sea moss thrive among the rocks and sand, and the region is also home to a stunning array of sea birds, which clamour constantly, and feast on the tide's natural and constant bounty.

Natural Resources

Limestone and shale are abundant in the rocky cliffs of the region, in addition to the abundant coastal flora and fauna.
