Torchstone
Torchstone lies at the northernmost point of the Island nation of Palawyr. A seaside city that grew up around the Torchstone Light and Harbour, it is a sprawling, diverse society of fishers and sea-men, and even beneath the oppressive eyes of the Emerald Watch and the Gilded Hand, free trade still thrives. When the weather permits, dockside merchants and traders hawk their wares from dawn til dusk, as fishers and trappers haul in their catches, and buskers wander between the stalls, performing for tips, and gifts.
There is an abundance of inns and alehouses, as well as restaurants, artisans' shops, and houses of ill repute.
Government
Torchstone has a mayor and a council, duly elected by its citizens, although since the coming of the Empire, their main objectives have been simply to keep the city's profile as low as possible. The docks and lighthouse are minimally maintained, but the roads have grown rutted, and tufted with beach grass.
Defences
A palisade surrounds the city of Torchstone- it's purpose more to discourage the encroachment of wild beasts from the nearby forests. Some damage was done during the Annexation, which has been roughly patched, if never properly repaired.
Industry & Trade
Exports include limestone, alabaster, marble, and gypsum, as well as rough gems, copper and tin, salt, and fruits and herbs native to the island.
Imports: Silk, muslin, tobacco, and spices, fine grains, (Agriculture on Palawyr is somewhat limited, and refined flour and sugar are expensive.)
Infrastructure
Most prominant are the Torchstone Light, and the Harbour docks, which, in fairer weather, host a steady traffic of merchant ships.

Guilds and Factions
The Company of Foresters, Stonemasons' and Woodwrights' guilds, and the Torchstone Grange Society have regular and public meetings, ostensibly to support their respective crafts and trades. Much more secretive is the Circle of the Sheltered Lamp, whose members wear candle tokens. The members are practitioners and non-practicing supporters of magic and mysticism. It's founder, a Forester called by the name of Ghilla Macrae, is a Robin Hood-like folk hero of the region.
