The Standard of Ravwan

It is supposed to be a symbol of unity but it has many tribulations and conflicts behind it. For what it stands for is widely different depending on the people; unity, oppression, peace or war...   For what it is today? It is a piece of history and all of the above.
— Everam, Teller of Nimenra
A symbol that has a bloody and hopeful history, the Standard of Ravwan was created for the purpose of bringing two sibling ethnicities together. Its effect can be questioned and discussed as few can see if there has been any effect today. The symbol, however, is one hopeful for the future, for stability and for most of all peace to bring the two closer together.

History of the banner

Before the Kingdom of Ravero was the large realm it is today its lands were home to many countries but two distinct etnicities that called the regions their home: The Renvar and The Wanerian. Conflict was common but when the Kingdom of Ravero was founded it marked a change. A united realm rose with a lion on its red standard which would face the many other tribes and young kingdoms in the area. Eventually, another realm would rise, the Kingdom of Wanria, with a standard containing a falcon on a shield and flowers on its blue standard. The two became representative of the two peoples in the region as the struggle between the two continued. Eventually, Ravero would win a decisive victory and force many of the Wanerians northwards to other regions. As a symbol of victory, the standard of Wanria was broken and forgotten.   Decades later as life continued, the remaining Wanerians in the south were constantly disgruntled by the leadership of Renvaren nobility and the mistreatment they faced. Conflicts and disputes between them and actions from neighbours both north and east of Ravero eventually lead to escalating violence and revolt. Lives were lost, stability was shattered and blame was put on the ones who tried to rise. The then King Halmen II was harsh but in hindsight tried a new method thanks to his wife and children. Trying to mend the broken bonds and broker peace and unity a new standard was created as a symbol of the attempts to meet the Wanerians and people of the regions. The new banner was a red lion with a blue falcon flying above it, a braided circle surrounded the two and a light purple background.

Pride of the Standard

The last centuries have seen little of the standard as the intended symbol for unity amongst the Renvaren and the Wanerain peoples. It has instead been going into battle against the threat of Nekuram's invasion of Marlun. Some call it the kings' and Renvars' vague hope of showing that Ravero is more united than it is, as the Wanarian troubles are well known beyond its kingdom's borders. During the War for Marlun, however, the Wanerians that have marched under the standard have been more accepting of their brethren Renvars as brothers- and sisters-at-arms. Perhaps it is somewhat of a symbol for them to unite under when the real threat looms around the corner or on the doorsteps of their homes?
Despite this attempt, the problems did not disappear. King Halmen's standard did not become the symbol it was intended to become, some Wanerians even saw it as a mockery of the losses and injustices they were given. A minority did accept the attempt but too soon felt it was more token than anything as laws were not changed and higher men and women continued their rule without repercussions. As time went on, the standard was used by the Renvaren army too in their attempts to pacify and prevent the continued troubles. The standard was used in the conquest and destruction of the last independent Wanerian kingdom, Northfen, in 1388. It later saw sporadic uses by the army and other people trying to invoke unity and stability politics. The standard later saw use in the The War for Marlun as Renvaren kings marched into battle together with Revaro's own.
