Elementals

On the Elementals

These beings... only exist in texts I believe. From my understanding of what they were, they were literal constructions of the elements. Something created by the Gods or some way of unseen magic ever since long ago when the Gods were all with us, when The War of the Gods were here.
Understanding how they worked is a mystery. The first example I wish to use is the Earth Elemental. Made out of... earth and stone, these could come in many varieties. Stone clustered together or earth packed together to form limbs and the body. These could be in many shapes and forms. "Feet" touched on the ground to keep them upright at anywhere from three meters to five. Their "heads" could be the stone or a creation from the earth to look similar to both Human and Demon. Their eyes glowed with a sentient understanding but were wild and untamed. Galurewal, a warrior during The War of the Gods, fought one of these but was shocked at how it looked at him with a sort of hatred only seen in a wounded animal. Their abilities were not magical but physical, throwing themselves into combat, with arms of stone or earth that could raze buildings and throw men to death in a single hit. They were, however, kept together with magic, or so it seems when the legends tell of these. Mages could control them(?) and use them against enemies. Perhaps it was even possible that they could be used for other means, building structures, bridges, homes, walls and whatever demands a large construction force.
Now to the Ice Elemental, of which I see a striking similarity to the Ice Harrow. Ice Elementals were, as the name implies, made out of ice, frozen solid water. Due to the magic that they were constructed by, however, they did not melt immediately when approaching the non-snowy regions of Nimenra. Their appearance varied, from smaller human stances to the larger equal of Earth Elementals, approaching three meters tall. These ice monstrosities were also more ferocious, similar to Fire Elementals, in their ways of battle compared to others. They could shoot icicles from themselves, blast icy winds and freeze people in place.

Being of Magic

As far as I understand them they were constructions of magic, something the Gods or perhaps experimenting magic users of the time were able to produce. They are all seemingly created out of the available material, where Fire is perhaps the most mystical as they are "created" from braziers and large balefires. They were not "summoned" in any instance of myth or legend and usually was an obstacle or threat in some way to heroes. Few battles are recorded with these beings, the few known instances are recorded with Fire and Ice Elementals. Every instance, however, occurs when a God, many times one of... The Other Gods... or a powerful magic user mentioned, again as a threat or obstacle.

Possibiy real or "flare"?

Beings die and thrive in our world. Some die out completely and others disappear, like The Dragons of Nimenra which seem to be more likely to have existed based on evidence. Elementals have left little for me to know whether the fact they were real, as with us here on Nimenra, or if they were fictitious, something used by a teller or otherwise as a "flare" for their tale. The real threat could have been the very powerful magic user, as they were controlling other beings to their will. Empowering them in such a way to be truly able to form life makes them seem much more of an entertaining and dangerous threat to the warriors and heroes of old tales.
Then we have the odd instance of magic. We know for a fact that old magic that we don't understand today exists. Thus it is not impossible for something like Elementals to exist with its use. The odd tales of large battles with these also stand as credit for them to have been a real species of magical creatures similar to the Ice Harrow, or maybe we can even see them as the Crystal Fox? Something we have a hard time understanding.
The very real threat, however, is that old magic can be rediscovered... And if we were able to rediscover the way to create these beings... Well, I fear what men and women, both Human and Demon, would face if they became a reality for us all.
More threatening is the thought that they might already exist out there... Jorvikans after all have told tales of larger Ice Harrows that they fear up north in the mountains of Jorvemland...
