How to Set a Foundation
Characters can expend 20 downtime days and 500gp to settle a foundation within a settlement in preparation for establishing a business, a residence, or a guildhall. For every 500 gold spent, 2 Building Spaces are gained to build on further.
This means that if you spend 20 downtime days and 500gp, you will make available 2 Building Spaces worth of land to build on; if you spend 20 downtime days and 1500gp, you will make available 6 Building Spaces worth of land to build on.
The organization, business, or guild this activity is built for retains control of this land until they choose to build upon it. More downtime days and gold will be necessary to establish the business and build the structures but this is an important first step in the process.
