The Tusza

General Description

A collection of humanoids who worship a series of reptilian deities and frequent ancient ruins scattered throughout the Yuancol Isles. The word Tusza is from an ancient offshoot of the draconic language which translated into common is 'Followers'.

History

The yuan-ti were a reptilian species that dominated these islands millennia ago but have since become extinct, at least on the material plane. They enslaved thousands of creatures during their reign and forced them to create temples, statues and other idols in the image of their gods. These rulers also provided a safe home and helped defend against any threats from outsiders causing many slaves to be thankful and gracious towards them.   There are many conflicting stories and records between those who supported or condemned the yuan-ti and much is up to interpretation by historians.   in the year 3019, the yuan-ti were wiped out by a group of pirates known as the redtooth raiders who forcibly liberated the islands for their own use for a handful of years before being driven away by those still devoted to their former slavemasters.

Culture

In the present day, the themes and traditions of the yuan-ti and heavily seen and felt throughout the Yuancol Isles. The village of Bowstead stands as a prime example with the layout, designs and building techniques reminiscent of the island's past.   A large number of Tillia reside here and form a large number of the Tillia found on Rayas.   Daily prayers to the sun goddess Axalla take place at sunrise and involve a special meal made from local insects, offerings are left out on stone alters to gain the favour of the god of fortune Fyraz and a tribute to the night goddess Buszarl see the creations of giant bonfires to keep warm through the night.   Those who live in the village and on the other islands spend their free time repairing and maintaining the ruins, sometimes rebuilding them to their former glory. Many believe the yuan-ti will one day return and they strive to have the isles ready for a grand welcome.

Ruins

The countless ruins scattered around the isles are an impressive sight, with some of the larger and more well-preserved ones around Bowstead and Mysthaven. They generally feature reptilian motifs and extensive stone brickwork and often have large staircases and slopes descending all the way to the shoreline.
