Redcrest Mountains

The largest mountain range on Rayas, the Redcrest Mountains are also the most central and landlocked. These mountains are largely formed of sandstone which feature a distinctive reddish hue that gives them their name and unique appearance.   In the center of the main formation, there is a vast body of water known as Aunia Lake with a central rocky island called Kalni, a small cluster of long-dormant volcanoes. This water is permanently heated by elemental activity beneath the planet's surface, causing an ever-present mist to gather around the range.   The majority of the mountains fall under the control of Talia but the eastern offshoots find themselves in neighbouring regions. These branches are also much less red than the main ring around Kalni, giving cause for them to have alternative local names for these parts of the mountains.

Landmarks

Antauri Nest

Deep in the mountains, a large ancient temple featuring all manner of angelic and avian theming erodes into ruin. Left by its creators thousands of years ago, the mystery remains of who constructed the temple, what function it served and most importantly why it was abandoned.

Catalico Caves

Behind a large waterfall just west of Aunia Lake, a series of strange caves can be found that are covered in a crystalline gemstone-like substance from floor to ceiling. Several samples of this unusual substance have been studied and analysed, however, this material or any potential uses for it remain unidentified.

Kassaku Canyon

The site of a legendary battle thought to have occurred around the year 100 AC, where the dragon Kassaku was eventually slain by a band of heroes after a reign of terror lasting decades. A monument was constructed on the site marking the event for generations to come, however, over the millennia the area has become less habitable driving all inhabitants much further out.

Unakat Lookout

A relatively old set of fortifications were used to spot enemy advancements in a time of war around 1250 AC, the Unakat Lookout is the last remaining structure. These days, the tower is far away from the current borders of Talia and no longer serves an active purpose other than as a visual landmark.
