Barnabas Bray
Police Chief Superintendent of Sootbury's Corrections House, Barnabas Bray is one of the most powerful men in Ile, overseeing the internment and reform of the planet's most dangerous prison population. Bray himself is recluse, known for being a complete and utter workaholic. His past is unfortunately spotted with tragedy, his mother murdered when he was young and the case never solved. He owns a grand house in Sootbury's upper district but the structure's fallen into clear neglect under his care, a harsh contrast to the well-oiled machine that is the Corrections House. Bray is close to the other people of power in Sootbury, being the distant cousin of the Governor himself, Lucius Cadwell, and often escorting the Hour Willis Wonderful as his personal guard. Bray's life consists largely of his work, known for remaining in the House for days if not weeks at a time and travelling to the nearby settlements of Steamhaven and Tattingwall to oversee the police stations there. Bray tolerates no disrespect, despises chaos and danger, and makes sure the protective curfew over the two larger Islands around Dir Darum is strictly enforced. Most of the Islands function on that curfew under Bray's watchful eye like clockwork, well-oiled and rarely disturbed, just the way he likes it.
