Session 012 - The Butler Did It

Recent Events
The heroes find a hidden shrine to the god Naveh in the sewers and discover evidence that this cult of assassins is planning to enact the Rite of Nao-Thian; however the characters have no idea what this is and plan to investigate.
Separately Quazzy makes a pact with the corrupted Elf Demigod Desridaen.
Continuation of Session 11 - Mess in the Sewer.
The characters ask their contacts to investigate what the Rite of Nao-Thian. A few weeks later Valmera meets with the group, saying that she has found something interesting and invited them to attend a meeting at the Temple of Hyn-Aelori. At the temple, they met with the High Deacon Hermas Cadrune of the Order of Hyn-Aelori, High Decon Adaili Remonal of the Order of Rydequelyn and Brother Merric of the Church of Peoni.
High Deacon Hermas Cadrune believes the details of the Rite of Nao-Thian contained in a collection of Scrolls called of Manifestation of Nargrathian. The Hyn-Alori temple vaults had a copy but, but it seems to have disappeared. Using divination magic, they have determined the scrolls disappeared from the restricted archive, some months ago. The temple records say the only unusual visitor that day was Hafon Jeredosta, a skilled alchemist and member of the powerful, wealthy senatorial Jeredosta family. However, he did not have any access to the vault, but as an experienced master of the alchemy arts, he may have found a way. He also has a history of borrowing rare books without authorization. However, as his family donates significantly to the church he cannot be accused of stealing and the evidence is immiscible and circumstantial.
The characters are asked if they will be willing to rob Halfon's apartment, located next to the Large Jeredosta Townhouse, and determine if he has the scrolls and if so retrieve it. To aid them in the mission High Decon Adaili Remonal of the Order of Rydequelyn gives them a few Rydequelyn Cards.
But first Yu-reb, magically disguised, decides to investigate Hafon Jeredosta Alchemist Shop, the Bubbling Flask. On entering he finds a chaotic mess, the new Alchemist Vasim Ichiron has just acquired the franchise from Hafon Jeredosta and moved in a few days ago. Yu-reb uses his Tankard of Sobriety while questioning the drunkard alchemist.
That night the heroes avoiding locals and patrols move to the back of the apartment building and avoiding patrols enter though balcony on the third level. Inside they find the building seems abandoned apart from a light in the attic. They discover the following.
- Chlorine Gas, Fire, Frost, and Electrical traps. Some are avoided, some are disabled by the Yu-Reb although a few are accidentally triggered.
- Careful inspection of a dollhouse in the shape of the building reveals the potential location of several secret doors.
- Flammable chemicals and liquids are spilled on the floor. The building is set up to burn.
- In the bath, they find the dead body of Hafon Jeredosta with a broken neck.
The heroes enter the attic. As they enter a man drops from the ceiling, the Butler Sylam. The man is a master at unarmed combat and quickly dispatches both Athena and Quazzy. Thinking quickly Yu-reb casts a charm spell, causing the butler to burst into laughter effectually disabling him. Then he administers some sleeping drug and butler falls into a deep slumber.
Some hours later Quazzy and Athena begin an interrogation. They are very successful and find that he is a Navean Sleeper agent and has been acting as a butler for the last 15 years. He tells them that the Scrolls of the Manifestation of Nargrathian are safely in the temple of Naveh, but they believe Jeredosta may have made a copy. He has been searching the house for them.
Quazzy ritually kills him.
The characters find a secret entrance to the hidden cellar. Within are copies of Halfon work. On the desk is a letter, addressed to the High Decon Hermas Cadrune of the Church of Save K'Nor, unsent.
Dear High Decon
I am so sorry I have betrayed your trust. This is a confession of my many misdeeds, stealing documents from your vaults, copying them then returning them, using my skill in alchemy to disguise my actions. I thought it was an exciting fun diversion, a challenge, a hobby so to speak. I only wanted to test my skill in obscure languages.
Then the priests in skull masks found out, I am not sure how. I was so careful, and they started blackmailing me. So I stole the documents they instructed, making copies for them, then returning them so no-one would be the wiser. But this was getting dangerous. I sent all my family and staff away except my trusted manservant Sylam.
Those last scrolls, the Manifestation of Nargrathian, contained a ritual so dangerous, I shudder to think of the consequences. But they did not want a copy, only the original, but I saw enough to chill me to the bone. They plan to kill thousands in a night of unholy slaughter.

The Church of Naveh wants to summon the Greater Gytevsha, Krasula who will walk through the city streets at night, causing the sleeping populations to have horrific nightmares, then wake with insane murderous rage. The resulting bloodbath, chaos, and death toll will be used to empower an unholy artifact.
