Naveh Character in Misty Isle of Harn | World Anvil

Naveh

The Merchant of Death

Much of the inspiration and details is derived from Colombia Games and the Hârn Religion Team (HRT) Archive.

God (a.k.a. Thief of Heaven)

Naveh, the thief of Heaven, is the most merciless of all the gods, motivated by cold and remorseless intelligence rather than violent insanity.

He is the god of darkness, nightmares, murder, thievery, lies, deception, and is often worshipped by thieves and assassins.

He is known for his skull mask, carved from a giant diamond, and dwells in the bleak city of Kamil, "whose ebon blood-soaked streets are silent, and where Night Eternal reigns."

Tenets of Faith

Ritual murder and suicide play major roles in the worship of Naveh.

Holidays

Dezenaka

On the night of the new moon, the Navehan church performs its most important ritual. This always involves a blood sacrifice. This could be the suicide of an ill or aging cleric or murder of some hapless victim. Occasionally a victim is selected, which must be carried out within a month. Dezenaka rituals end with a ceremonial feast in which the sacrifice's blood is mixed with wine and consumed by the attending priests. Where a human sacrifice for whatever reason is not possible, then an animal sacrifice may be substituted.

Shadowmath, the Night of Shadows

The most important day of the Navehan year.

The Herth Akan

In a punishment ritual, a miscreant cleric is given a one hour head start and for three successive days and nights thereafter must evade the murderous pursuit of seven of his temple brothers. If he evades death for the required period, he is permitted to live, while the failed brothers will commit ceremonial suicide.

This ritual is occasionally used against the temple's enemies or against those that the temple has contracted to kill. In this case, the victim is given a suitable warning.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

In the beginning was chaos. From this chaos came the First Gods, who strove against each other for domination over Kelestia, the Cosmic 'All'. Eventually, the gods will again make war on each other, destroying themselves and restoring the primal chaos. All will be destroyed, except Naveh, the Lord of the Last Illusion, and those who have embraced his discipline.
