Continuation of Session 10 - Nightmares.

Fungi Infestation and Shadow Dogs.

The heroes continue following the Beggar through the sewer. They pass by a nest of particularly noxious fungi whose long tendrils, rotted the flesh of any who pass by. They were feeding on a dead body, on which the characters find some gems and potions.

Further on they were assaulted by strange shadowy doglike fiends, which materialized out of the darkness, attacked, then retreated again into the shadows. However, they were quickly dispatched and Athena sensed the presence of evil nearby. Investigating the characters locate a secret passageway up into a hidden shrine.

Shrine to Desridaen

The ladder up was trapped with deadly poisoned needles. Athena was nicked, but Quazzy was quickly able to formulate an antidote.

The shrine was circular in shape and on the walls, in white paint, were fifteen representations of Elven Long-Knives. A dead body, weeks old, and several skeletons were scattered throughout the chamber. The altar was typical of that of the God Naveh, however this shrine was dedicated to one of his chief underlings, the demigod Desridaen, weapon-crafter to the God of Assassins. Written on the the east wall in red paint was the Ode to Desridaen in Besha which Quazzy translates.

As the heroes pass through the chamber Athena notices that the braziers burst into light as Quazzy passes by. Then three shadowy forms, Lesser Gytevsha, move through the walls and attack. Although the battle is close, ultimately they are no challenge when Athena empowers her strikes with Balefire.

Quazzy examines a small set of candles on the altar and decides to extinguish them, as she does so she passes out.

Awakening in a dark misty forest, she observes emerging from among the darkness a pale elf, Desridaen. From him she learns that one of the members of the cult she was affiliated with was attempting to possess her body, but as the ceremony was interrupted part of the soul of the possessor was trapped inside her, this is the source of Quazzys magical power.

During a short exchange Quazzy forms a pact with Desridaen. He wants revenge against an as yet unnamed entity, that tortured and twisted his nightmares when he was alive over a thousand years ago. She will be the instrument for thwarting his schemes. In return, he will grant Quazzy great power and the abilities, only at the cost of a portion of what remains of her soul. He directs Quazzy to look under the dead body.

Quazzy awakens to find a dagger-like symbol on the back of her hand, the Sign of Desridaen and takes the candlestick from the shrine.

Under the dead body they find a message in blood merely saying the "Rite of Neo-Thian, Naveh be praised." What this means is unknown.

Searching the chamber they find two enchanted items a Cursed Inkwell and a Ring of Castigation.

Last of the Slime

On the way out of the Sewers they briefly encounter some strange grey slimes which are easily dispatched by magic.

Downtime activities over the next six weeks

Yu-Reb

Athena asks Yub-Reb to investigate Yigal Uro, the stable-master at the Stake Inn. Apparently he is from the same area in the Kingdom of Rethem as Athena. Casting disguise and minor charm spells, he buys a few drinks for Yigal and gleans the following information.

Yigal was the stable-master for the Earl of Ithiko and he remembers the Earl meeting with the Hamlen's on several occasions and also the Earl hiring a rather unsavoury mercenary band, the Company of the Argent Wyvern. He saw this group occasionally disguising themselves as bandits. Athena believes they may have been the bandit group which killed her family.

Quazzy

Quazzy rents a building in Coranan's slum district for three months. Inside she creates a shrine to Desridaen.

Athena

Athena travels to the Town of Telen and gives her family sword to the smiths at the The Black Forge for reforging. The sword is named Retribution, with the name and flames, embossed along the blade. Athena's family crest is set on the guard.
