Castle of Themeson

Some of the inspiration and details are derived from Colombia Games.

A castle formerly held by the held by the Order of the Cohorts of Gashang but now controlled by the Thardic Republic Gerium Legion. This settlement has a long history of violence and religious upheaval. The religious climate is dominated by the strict religious doctrine of the Order of the Eight Demons who hold significant lands in the district. Efforts to bring a more tolerant religious environment has met considerable resistance.

Marshall Jithias Mariam of the Gerium Legion is under-resourced and struggles to keep law and order while receiving little support for the provincial Magistrate Borisir Wytel.

The settlement is also said to be home to malevolent spirits who haunt a small nearby wood and a cursed Mausoleum.

Government

Marshall Jithias Mariam of the Gerium Legion is responsible for the Legions, police force, and security while the Magistrate Borisir Wytel is the civil chief administrative and judicial officer. Both men are known to hate each other

Buildings of Note

The Magistrates Villa - Currently occupied by Magistrate Borisir Wytel.

Mausoleum of Peserl Lorseriel - Former Morgathic Tyrant killed by the Priestess Meyasania. This site is said to be haunted by Peserl's Ghost and any unexplained disappearances are often attributed to this malevolent entity.

Ruined temple - Formally a temple to Peoni it was desecrated and turned into a temple to Morgath in 566TR. It was wrecked and torn down during the uprising of 588TR.

Burning Ember Inn - A rough low quality favored by the Cohorts of Gashang.

The Timber pile - A large pile of timber used by the charcoaler. A hideout for gangs of rowdy children.

Gibbet Woods - A haunted wood.

Guilds and Factions

The Eight Demons control most of the nearby mines, supplying guards and slaves to the Miner Guild.

History

359TR - The third Corani Emperor, built a keep at Themeson and used it as a base to incorporate local tribes into the Empire.

558TR - The Balshan Jihad sweeps through the Corani Empire, and Themeson falls to an army led by Peserl, the Heart Stealer, Lorseriel. Peserl became governor of the region during the Theocracy of Tekhos.

588TR - Peserl is killed allegedly by the sacrifice of the Agrikian Priestess Meyasania. The Morgathic forces are driven out, and the temple to Morgath demolished. For many years, the castle is held by various minor warlords until eventually joining the Coranan Republic. In the years that followed, ownership passed to the Thardic League, and finally, the Thardic Republic.

708TR - The Order of the Red Shadows of Hepra , an Agrikan fighting order based at Menekai in northeast Rethem, annexed Themeson from the Gerium Legion in a surprise attack. The provincial Marshal was an inexperienced commander and suffered a series of embarrassing defeats. War with Rethem was narrowly averted as the Republic's Senate was unable to coordinate a response.

714TR - Merele Kantar, a high priestess of the Order of Hepra the Mace incited a split within the order. She orchestrated a coup resulting in the seizure of many of its temples and Themeson Castle. After the bloodbath, the Order of the Eight Demons was formed, and the former Red Shadows warriors loyal to them became the Cohorts of Gashang. Those that opposed the new regime were brutally executed.

721TR - The King of Rethem and the Thardic Senate sign the Treaty of Themeson. Themeson Castle and estates have been returned to the Thardic Republic. Lands, buildings, and mines will be returned to their previous owners if alive. However, as a great number of these people have died and most of the resources remain under the control of the Order of the Eight Demons.
