Helixhold
This dwarven city is renowned for the amount of coal that is mined here. Deep within the winding veins of Karak-Hirn’s northern range lies Helixhold, a city built around black stone and burning fire. Helixhold’s forges never sleep, fed day and night by the vast coal seams that twist beneath the earth like the roots of some ancient flame. The city’s name comes from the spiral descent of its mines; massive helical shafts that wind ever deeper into the earth, lined with pulley lifts, cart tracks, and glowing lanterns that bathe the stone in flickering orange light. Coal dust clings to every surface, and the air carries the rich scent of smoke and sweat. But where others might see grime, the dwarves of Helixhold see fuel, fire, and fortune. Helixhold is a city of industry. Massive smelting halls belch steam from great chimneys, while smiths labor in open-air workshops built into the mountainside, crafting tools, weapons, and armor powered by their endless supply of fuel. The rhythmic pounding of hammers and the hiss of quenched steel echo through the corridors, creating a thunderous symphony of creation.
