Aganthorix
Aganthorix, the oldest city in Arelonia and the resplendent capital of the Empire of Ivarn, is a city carved from the bones of history, where the echoes of ancient empires still resonate in its marble colonnades and shadowed catacombs. Founded over four millennia ago atop a hill overlooking the Diamond River, Aganthorix began as a sacred citadel for an ancient empire almost long forgotten to which its ruins now lie buried beneath the imperial forums and temples of the modern city. It is said the city has never fallen to siege, its walls standing through countless ages like the unblinking eyes of the gods.
Infrastructure
Aganthorix is a city of layers; stone stacked upon stone, era upon era. Its ancient core, the Old Crown, is a ringed acropolis of black basalt and white marble, housing the Imperial Palace, the Hall of Triumphs, and the Temple of the Eleven Flames, each a monument to a different epoch of the empire’s ascent. From there, the city radiates outward in concentric districts: the Scholar’s Quarter with its towering libraries and observatories; the Artisan Rings, bustling with forges, ateliers, and amphitheaters; and the sprawling Lower Canals where the working class and merchant clans reside among shaded arcades and markets fragrant with spices.
The city's architecture is an eclectic grandeur—Imperial baroque beside high Arelonian classicism, with traces of older, undeciphered styles visible in the substructures. Bridges span the River Yvros like ribs of a colossal skeleton, linking the east and west banks of the city.
