Calcite
A stronghold on the peaks of the savannah. The dwarves of Karak-Hirn hold out against the high heats in their mountain homes. Perched atop the jagged crown of the savannah’s lone mountain range, the city of Calcite stands as a gleaming bastion of dwarven endurance and craftsmanship. Hewn directly into the sun-bleached stone of the highlands, this mountain stronghold serves as the surface heart of Karak-Hirn, a dwarven kingdom that thrives beneath the scorching savannah sun. Named for the shimmering white veins of calcite that streak the cliffs like frozen lightning, the city is a fortress first and a trade hub second. Its towering walls and skyward bastions are built to withstand both siege and searing heat. Watchtowers rise from the rock like the horns of some ancient beast, keeping constant vigil over the dusty plains below. Narrow paths and clever switchbacks lead to grand gates carved with the runes of the Ironforge Clan, protectors of the city and master smiths of fire-resistant alloys. Despite the heat, Calcite pulses with dwarven life. Cool mountain breezes are captured and funneled through ingenious ventilation shafts that descend into Karak-Hirn’s tunnel cities, while the outer terraces bloom with hardy succulents, mossy stone gardens, and mirrored solar forges. Merchant caravans, escorted by war goats and steel-clad outriders, bring trade from across the savannah, exchanging tools, weapons, and rare minerals for foodstuffs and cloth. Calcite is not only a symbol of dwarven resilience but a declaration: the mountains may burn beneath the sun, but the will of Karak-Hirn will not melt.
