Halflight City
The Capital of the Kingdom of Meadkeep. A bustling city full of life on the southern edge of the Bay of Serpents. The city is the gem of Meadkeep, housing the majority of its population and bearing the mark of the largest city by land area west of the Birchstar Mountains.
Demographics
Government
As the capital of Meadkeep, Halflight City houses a large castle and palace. The King, Roscoe IV, resides here and oversees the kingdom from the grand keep.
Industry & Trade
The main industry within Halflight City is the production of mead. From the various apiaries throughout the entire city as well as the gross product from the agricultural district and the city's tributary villages, the finest mead in all of the land is produced. While mead is the most commonly produced good in the city, the industrial district produces a multitude of various trade goods and household commodities.
The port districts serves as a major trade hub of the northeastern region and is commonly frequented by merchants arriving from across the Deep Waters.
Districts
Halflight City is divided into seven unique districts:
The Noble District
This district contains the only walled section of the city. Inside the district, it houses the keep and grand palace, all important government buildings such as cityhall, the counting house and the foreign embassies. The majority of the city's nobility and wealthy citizens are also located within the safety of the district's walls. The Agricultural District
While the majority of the city contains numerous wildflower gardens and apiaries, this district is the main source of food for the city. It contains carefully cultivated greenhouses growing mainly wheat, melons, dandalions and barley. Various other crops are grown, but those provide the bulk of the city's food staples. The majority industry output of the city is generated by this districts grains and the myriad of apiaries both here and throughout the city, producing the finest mead in the known world. The Industrial District
On the opposite side of the city from the port district reside the majority of the skilled workers of the city. In this district, the craftsfolk transform the imported raw goods into usable products that are then sold in the merchant district and shipped back out of the ports. This district employs the majority of the city's population providing jobs for the skilled and unskilled laborer alike. The Merchant District
Located in the upper central portion of the city, this district is composed of the merchants, top craftsfolk and cultural artisans that live within the city. They produce a number of luxury goods from materials brought in via the neighboring port district as well as brought in from elsewhere within the kingdom. The upper middle class who cannot afford to live within the protection of the noble district reside in this district. The grand majority of the economical business of the city is conducted here. The Fighters' Guild, the Marigold Magical Society and the Pathfinder Society guildhouses are located within the Merchant district. The Port District
Along the Bay of Serpents is the most traveled portion of the city. Due to its proximity to the Birchstar Mountains and the favorable weather conditions of the bay, the city serves as the intake point for most trade in the northwestern region. Much of the industry of the region goes through the Halflight ports at one point or another. While always busy, there is little residential area within this district. The Sprawling District
This district contains the majority of the overworld population of Halflight City. Rows of houses and hovels stand stacked up in a sprawling urban labyrinth. The laborers and unskilled workers of the lower classes make up the majority of the residents of this district, but also a significant portion of the poorer skilled workers from the industrial district just to the north also find this district as their home. The Undercity
Below the rest of the city in the tunnels and catacombs there is an entire other city which is commonly just referred to as 'The Undercity'. This area is self-sufficient and does not interact with the upper city on a regular occasion. Trade and exchange of services will occur infrequently, but in general the two cities tend to themselves. The ratfolk who comprise the majority of the undergrounders are shunned by the citydwellers and tend to favor the non-interaction.Guilds and Factions
Halflight City is home to a variety of guilds with the three most prominant being the Fighters' Guild, the Marigold Magical Society and the Pathfinder Society.
A chapter of The Vanguard can be found garrisoned here and they are the only faction to be headquartered within the walled section of the city.
