Session 1 - A Somber Homecoming

General Summary

In response to the death of his mother, Amala, Sigisar Wallia, an aspirant to enter the Tungrischritter Order, was called home. On his way back to Schloss Horstkopf, he stopped at a nearby village tavern, where he encountered two vagabonds, Manfred - a Vagant, and Kaleb - his knee-high companion. Manfred offered his services as a former university student to aid the funeral, and they were invited by Sigisar to accompany him back to the castle.
Upon arriving back in the castle, Sigisar found himself caught up in a web of political machinations. After the formalities and greetings, Sigisar’s father, the Markgrave, asked that he give up his aspirations of joining a holy order that he might marry the noble lady Winifred von Bischoffsbaum, originally intended for his less reputable (and hence, fetching a smaller dowry) brother Vilaris. While distraught by this development, Sigisar agreed to the marriage for the honor of his family.
Winifred for her part, was beset with her own problems concerning the upcoming marriage. Apparently suffering from uncontrolled bursts of wild magic, and had already caused some destruction to furniture since arriving at the castle. She also seems to be somewhat distraught regarding having to perform her familial duties. She feels in some ways controlled by her brother Kaspar, who sees her as a political pawn. Attempting to assuage her frustrations were some of the other visitors in the castle - Narcissa, a dispossessed cousin to the Wallia Family, who had a marriage fall through and her family’s estate destroyed, and Freiherr Renfrid - an elderly brother to the deceased Amala.
Attempting to be honorable, Sigisar told Winifred of the change in marriage plans, which initially upset her. However, she was able to be calmed after conversing with Narcissa and Renfrid. Meanwhile, out on a hunt, Sigisar conferred with his father, who expressed that he had wished to relay the information of the wedding plan changes with more tact. Sigisar managed to convince his father to delay plans to announce the betrothal for a week after the funeral.
While the hunt was occurring, Narcissa and Winifred took a turn around the castle. Narcissa had earlier overheard some guards discussing a strange light coming from a high window. After locating the room, the two women encountered a strange crone with a spinning wheel, who only went by 'Grandmother'.
Over their stay, Manfred and Kaleb provided some mischief, including dancing on a table, a frenzied search for the restroom, and knocking out Winifred’s brother with a Sleep spell during the hunt on account of his rudeness.
