Schloss Horstkopf

The castle is built on a hill overlooking the Smara River. It is nearly impregnable, with the river on one side, and a deep trench on the other, bridged only by two narrow causeways that make any attacker subject to bow and crossbow fire from the gatehouse and the high tower windows above.
The core fortress is at least 500 years old, but it has been substantially renovated by the current resident over the last three decades.
The castle passed to the Wallia family over 150 years ago, when it, along with eight nearby villages, was granted by Ottfried Redmane to Adalbert Wallia for faithful service during the Kreuzzüge.
