Sivak Gol'rotta
Sivak Gol'rotta is a silver dragonborn paladin who appears in the Undesirables campaign. Her Kresh Name is Frostbite and will often be referred to by that name by people closest to her. She is played by L.M.
Description
Appearance
Gol'rotta is an enormous dragonborn, standing well above the average height of her kind. Her scales are silver, but with a tarnished appearance, a significant indicator of her emotional state. Other dragonborn would notice that her skin beneath her scales has a slight blue tint, but it is something other humanoids would struggle to notice. On her head is a large set of horns and her emerald green eyes are often set with a fierce intensity. Gol'rotta's full plate armor is a dark metal, nearly black, with a green sheen to it as it is made of adamantine. Always at her side is a maul that has the names of her ancestors that used the weapon before her carved down the haft.Personality
Gol'rotta is a very serious person and usually the one to take the initiative when a moral dilemma strikes. Some would say she has a bit of a temper, but those close to her know that she is not unreasonable, she just dislikes dealing with politics and lies and isn't afraid to call people out on them. Most of her softer emotions are buried and sealed off both from her militaristic upbringing and disdain from her clan leader. In battle, she doesn't always think before acting, ready to throw herself into the fight and make herself the main target of the enemy. It seems to be a combination of recklessness and protectiveness. Gol'rotta also seems to have an allergy to fey creatures, enough to get her to activate her frost breath when she sneezes. Her Kresh name, Frostbite, comes from the temperature of her frost being much colder than normal. As a baby, her sneeze is responsible for a human diplomat from Valmeria losing two fingers due to her active allergies.Biography
Background
Born in the Argentum Bastian, Gol'rotta is the only child of Sivak Gol'thaga and Rotta'ghan. Losing her mother to a drow ambush only weeks before the were to be reunited, Gol'rotta would leave the Kresh of her clan with her cousin, B'lanna to live with her father, Rotta'ghan. Tradegy would strike again as four years later her father would die during a duergar raid, leaving Gol'rotta and B'lanna to take care of B'lanna's younger sister, Sutra'ber, when they were just fourteen years old. With her father gone, Kal'bortaash, a young dragonborn jealous that Gol'rotta's size and natural prowess surpassed his own, began to subtly torment her. Seemingly for no reason besides the one sided hatred, this would continue and eventually get worse when he eventually became the clan Praetor. Undermining all of her accomplishments and generally doing whatever he could to make her life miserable, Gol'rotta eventually shut herself off from her emotions and buried them deep inside her in case her friends and family became collateral. Her military training offered some relief as she came under the tutilage of Captain Qo'suval, generally known as a father figure to all young recruits similarly orphaned. His guidance and training helped refine her natural skill and his compassion for the troops under his command set an example Gol'rotta would follow in her own way. While learning how to traverse the deeper areas of the Dreaming Grove, she was assigned to Arleith as a partner, with him being something of a student teacher to test his abilities to lead. Gol'rotta became quite taken with him both for his love of nature and for how he saw her. Arleith treated her like a normal member of the clan rather than putting her on a pedastal like most of the rest. While their feelings were mutual, though unspoken, Gol'rotta still feared Kal'bortaash would use those close to her as targets. She remained silent to keep him safe. During her forest training, something unusual happened. Taking Arleith's words to heart about the need to be one with nature and to open herself to it, Gol'rotta opened herself for the first time since leaving the Kresh and experienced something the Sivak had long forgotten. A powerful entity of nature came to her as she meditated, taking a liking to the young dragonborn. Seeing something in her, this being seemed beyond all the gods and goddesses of nature, something primal. She asked Gol'rotta if she would uphold the virtues and tenets in order to protect her people. Without hesitation, Gol'rotta took the Oath of Ancients, becoming the first palading of Clan Sivak since the Age of Beginnings. Having foresaken the gods since that dark time, this was not initially taken well by many of the clan. Most came around after seeing the abilities it granted her, especially her newfound ability to heal others. Kal'bortaash was not one of them though and he openly protested a member of the clan putting anything above the Sivak, even a god. The worst was yet to come as with her graduation from her military training came to an end. Her skills and strength made Gol'rotta the ideal candidate for a new captain position the clan was adding. Attempting to make her look incompetent, Kal'bortaash assigned Toy'wl, notorious for her lack of physical prowess, and Arleith, whom Gol'rotta had fancied for nearly a decade. While a relationship was forbidden because it would be inappropriate for Gol'rotta to be romantic with a subordinate, the two tried to mute their feelings with relative success. Gol'rotta's unit would become the most efficient unit within the army, suffering no casualties in their numerous battles against the Sivak Clan's enemies. Those that served under her would affectionately refer to themselves as the Frostfangs in reference to their captain's Kresh name. The team would serve as one of the strongest defensive force against the drow that raid the clan's mines and food stores. Gol'rotta in particular would take on anyone with a personal grudge against the drow into the Frostfangs as part of her own vendetta for her mother's death. Both the young captain and the unit as a whole became renown and celebrated throughout the clan, much to the infuriation of Praetor Kal'bortaash. Seizing an opportunity, the praetor wasted no time to test Gol'rotta's loyalty. Some captured thieves were brought before the clan and she was called to be their executioner. Gol'rotta hesitated at the idea, knowing that they had been lost in the Feywild, probably starving and scared. She knew it was wrong, but to disobey the praetor was grounds for exile or worse. With a heavy heart, she did as she was commanded, executing the prisoners. In the moment that her maul first swung down, she could feel her spirit dim. Publicly carrying out the order, the entire clan watched her scales tarnish before their eyes. Gol'rotta was miserable. She had broken her Oath and felt the goddess' touch fade from her. But in its place, something new filled the void. Accepting her darkness, her paladin abilities weren't lost completely, but many of them changed. An anger and apathy that fueled her in new ways, making the power intoxicating. As tempting as it was, Gol'rotta still prefered the old and wanted to find a way to redeem herself. Unsure of how to even do so, the dragonborn captain was shocked when she heard her patron calling out to her. While listening to a conversation between a tiefling and a goliath, the entity Gol'rotta called Mother Nature began reciting the Tenets of the Ancients as the tiefling spoke of his hopes for the future. Taking it as the sign that she desperately needed, Gol'rotta approached them upon hearing the two were going to start a mercenary guild and offered her services, thus becoming the third member and first recruit of the Undesirables. The Undesirables
Westerlose
The first mission the Undesirables received was in a small hamlet known as Westerlose. With Magnus dealing with the locals on the political and information side of things, Gol'rotta was quickly looked upon by several of the kobolds as something of a team leader in combat. Noticing her insignia on her armor, they often referred to her as 'Captain', despite her telling them not to call her that. The brutal efficiency in which the mercenaries dealt with their enemies had Gol'rotta concerned that she had been wrong to follow them, especially with the manner in which they handled Hal'leae, one of their prisoners. Coming to the leader of the bandits, the team fought a long, difficult battle trying to take him down. Once he was felled, a group of death cultists shifted their attention to Gol'rotta to focus their efforts on her. This proved to be a mistake on their part as the dragonborn knocked their leader's head clean off with a single swing of her maul. Amid the prisoners, the Undesirables found a Iunc'tura baby among them. Struck by a fireball as they tried to flee the fortress their final showdown had been in, the infant began to cry, making several members attempt to calm her down. Gol'rotta was the only one that the infant took a liking to, sparking the tiniest moment of hope in the dragonborn. Their escape successful and a few hours cleaning up, the mission was completed and the team headed back to Westfall. Back in the city, Gol'rotta tried to find a suitable home or shelter for the infant, but found none she deemed satisfactory. With resolve, she decided to care for the child herself, despite her culture's complete lack of knowledge of how to care for one. Eventually, the elf that had been keeping the baby safe in the fortress prison would pay them a visit to make sure the iunc'tura was safe and well. Before departing, she informed Gol'rotta that the infant's name was Lor'anna.Dugafjord
Their second away mission had the Undesirables go to a city called Dugafjord in the nation of Maracia. Reluctant to leave her ward behind, she asked a new recruit to watch over her while away. While there and waiting for their assignment to begin, Gol'rotta along with several others entered a friendly competition in the Turtledome Arena where she beat the amature ranked reigning champion with a single strike. Before entering, however, Ürsa was confronted by someone mistaking him and Gol'rotta for someone called Aurora Borealis and her handler. With the matches over, the group decided to investigate, finding a ship from Frostbane with several crew that looked like altered dragonborn. Already furious at the fact that they looked like they were being treated as slaves, her anger grew as she realized one was from her own clan. A confrontation between the Undesirables and one of the soldiers saw them being presented with a letter of diplomatic immunity. Not wanting to start an international incident, Gol'rotta let him go. Getting to Dugafjord and meeting with their contact, the team learned that many of the smaller towns around the city had been plagued by monster attacks and disappearances, One of the survivors claimed he had seen dragonborn, but that they were strange in both appearance and behavior, providing a possible link to the soldier. They traveled north to Saltshore, both to warn them and make a stop before heading to the villages that had already been hit. They found that it had already been ravaged and picked clean as well, but saw some people claiming to be fishermen. Gol'rotta recognized them as Draconians and a fight broke out. During the battle, one of the five dragonborn they had seen in Two Ports, one of tarnished gold coloring. When he was knocked out, Gol'rotta dragged him to shore before he drowned and stablized him. The fight over, she took the unconcious dragonborn with them, much to the disapproval of Mother Esther, the military leader of the Brides of St. Cuthbert protecting the refugees. Finding out the extent of curses and corruption affecting him, Gol'rotta's motivation to rescue them all was no longer negotiable, especially in the case of the silver dragonborn, Aurora Borealis. Her insistence had them give up a small room to hold him and the other four that Gol'rotta intended to bring back. She wrote to her cousin, telling the courier to specifically only deliver to the praetora, telling what she had seen and calling for war against Frostbane, the mercenary nation. Mother Esther and Gol'rotta would butt heads the duration of the mission because of differing styles of commanding. Most notabley, Gol'rotta was told she was allowed to save as many of the corrupted dragonborn as she could and house them in the church for the time being, but Mother Esther's instructions to her own was still to kill on sight. They had little to go on until Ürsa spied on a meeting between the man that talked to him at the arena and a man in a similar uniform as the soldier controlling the corrupted silver dragonborn. Eavesdropping on the two, they gave enough of a clue where they were hiding. Gol'rotta urged them to go right away, hoping to save her kin. With little hesitation, they did so and would get the chance to face off against Alexei and Aurora Borealis. When the fight became clearly in the Undesirables favor, the Frostbane soldier set the dragonborn under his control to a self destructive end so that he could make his escape. Not being fast enough to escape Romeo, he was killed by the kobold while the rest of the group rushed the dying dragonborn to the church. With the help of Sister Abigail and Sister Astrid, the dragonborn was saved and the curses removed. It took the her some time to recover, but when she was able to speak, Gol'rotta promised she would bring her home. Gol'rotta gave her the name Tethys after a dragon queen of ice from one of the Sivak folk songs. Resolve steeled, the Sivak captain vowed to end General Arseny Vadima's atrocities. The fighting would continue for another few days with General Vadima sending a wave of wererats that ended up killing the majority of the military force in town and abducting a girl with psionic abilities. Quick to action, the Undesirables gave chase, managing to rescue the girl and slay several of their better soldiers. Gol'rotta returned and threw the corpse of a sleeper agent in front of Mother Esther to show how her inaction and incompetence had been the cause of so many lost lives. With a change in leadership, the Brides of St. Cuthbert began fortifying Dugafjord while the Undesirables searched for the remainder of Vadima's forces. They found that he had retreated to the mansion he had taken over as a base and went to confront him. The fight was long and bloody, with it being revealed that Arseny Vadima was a half-dragon. During the fight, Gol'rotta tried to draw as much of the incoming attacks onto herself as she could, mostly so that her companions would not be forced to kill the remaining enslaved dragonborn. In the end, Gol'rotta dealt the killing blow, freezing Arseny's head with her breath weapon and tearing it from his body. With the battle ended, she had accomplished her hope to rescue all of the corrupted dragonborn. Sending letters to each clan they had originated from, Sister Abigail assured her the four she left would be cared for and protected until they were picked up by their respective clans. With time to breathe, Gol'rotta began to internally dread the promise she had made to Tethys to return her home. The full gravity of that promise began to sink in as she realized she would have to not only return home to fulfill it, but also face her clan for her own transgressions. Not willing to break another oath, especially to one who had suffered so much, she began to plan ways to prove her loyalty and fealty to the clan, or at the very least, her cousin.Preparing For the Future
As she began gathering supplies for her home, starting with lumber and food supplies, her attention shifted to Lor'anna. Wanting to care for her and protect her from the growing conflicts, Gol'rotta knew the safest place for her to be would be within her clan's kresh. To start, she went to the city offices and officially adopted Lor'anna, signing the document in her blood. She also started to learn to cook and sew from Constance Shepherd and Molly Baskins. Still worried about Lor'anna's wellbeing in cold climates, Gol'rotta sought out an enchanter and commissioned an earring with similar protections as a Tiny Hut spell. Out of respect for her heritage, she sought out the orcish tribes in the Golden Sea, taking Constance with her. Gol'rotta got the location of the Grey Wolf tribe from her aquaintences in Westerlose. Dame Kaerynn Colburn had given birth to her son since Gol'rotta's last visit and was struggling to manage the duties of motherhood and being the new mayor of the town, running into issues getting aide from the capitol. Assuring her she would assist somehow, Gol'rotta also cured her sick infant and asked the town to spare a maiden to act as a babysitter for Kaerynn to get some rest. Locating the orc tribe, she asked for their shaman to perform traditional piercing and asked what kind of meaning each one might have. Filled in on the ritual behind many of them, Gol'rotta decided she would honor that tradition and return to the tribe each time Lor'anna would have earned one. When offered to take the child, the tribe did not seem surprised when the dragonborn declined, stating they saw a strong bond between them already present. The shaman seemed annoyed that Gol'rotta wouldn't allow a tattoo to be applied, feeling it relied on Lor'anna's choice. Returning to Westfall, Gol'rotta picked up the earring and the twin elf enchanters sealed it in Lor'anna's fresh piercing, making it permanent without tearing the girl's ear. She returned to her tasks and informed Magnus of Kaerynn's situation in hopes he would know what to do. With everything going smoothly, she continued readying things for a trip to the Argentum Bastion.Wahi Kao
Given the opportunity to take a break and celebrate their accomplishments in Muzu's hometown, Gol'rotta looked forward to some positive distraction. Preparing Lor'anna to come with her, she was genuinely excited to visit an underwater city. Before they left, she was thrilled that Kurg applied for a position with the Undesirables and became outraged both for herself and for him when she learned he had been banned from the arena for suspectedly throwing their match. When they departed from Westfall, sailing with members of Clan Bozak on their ship, she showed respect to the captain and crew but mostly kept to herself, focusing on caring for her adopted daughter. Muzu brought her to the Temple of Poseidon in an attempt to cleanse the Aspect of Death from Gol'rotta, or at the very least get more answers about it. Putting her in a sacred pool and casting restorative magic, Gol'rotta began to hear it speak to her once more. It was agitated at Muzu's actions and demanded she kill him. With a small amount of smug satisfaction, she told Muzu to continue. They came into a vision of the previous host. The two were in the perspective of an orc, struggling to resist the effects of the Aspect of Death. As a way to steel his reseolve and that of what appeared to be an elven partner, this orc pleaded for the elf to look at 'their son'. Upon seeing the child, Muzu and Gol'rotta concluded this was another iunc'tura. Muzu saw it as an omen, trying to figure out what it could mean. A final attempt to cleanse Gol'rotta made them see the moment the Aspect of Death was killed, only to take hold in a new host. With few answers, the Undesirables began to debate their next action. It was encouraged to do something to pass the time while waiting for the festivities. In the city she emersed herself in the culture, enjoying the cuisine and partaking in arena combat. Opting to fight as a team against as many challengers as they could face, Gol'rotta found appreciation for Al'durin and his abilities as they were the ones sticking closest together in the fight. When it was cut short by the announcement of an attack on the city by sahuagin raiders, she and the other Undesirables rushed to assist. The battle was already over by the time they all arrived, but they learned from the sole survivor that her chieftain had been driven mad by a ceaseless hunger. Figuring this was the Horseman of Famine's host, Gol'rotta left Lor'anna in Constance's care to race out to stop him with the others. Using borrowed eels, Gol'rotta noticed that she rode the creature with an unnatural ease, making her concerned she was losing herself to the Aspect of Death attached to her. Ignoring it, she pressed on and found the ruins of what had once been the camp of the sahuagin raiders. Finding nothing but skeletons, a shark eventually swam by as if beckoning Gol'rotta to follow. It led her to an emaciated sahuagin mutant that spoke in a tongue only she could understand. "I've been looking for you, Pale Rider. We must reunite with the others and cleanse this realm." Gol'rotta vehemently declined and initiated a fight. The fight was long and most of the Undesirables suffered moderate injuries, but the main concern came with the accelerated rate their strength was being sapped from them. The fight was over when Muzu finished off the sahuagin with a divine smite. Trekking to a nearby sea elf village that had been hit by the sahuagin, the Undesirables helped the citizens before settling in at an inn for rest and more food than they had ever eaten before. When they woke in the morning, the Undesirables gathered as Gol'rotta discussed a letter she had gotten overnight. Her praetora had sent information she had requested. While it wasn't extensive, it gave some insight into other events that lined up with things they had already known. Learning the name of the orc she had seen memories of, Gol'rotta learned of his part in the Reclamation War, as well as his wife, an elven woman. Muzu confirmed that the same elf had been the previous host of Famine as well, leading into him sharing his dream. With the description of the avian humanoid, they pressed 'Juliet' for information. The erinyes refused, saying it was not in the line of his first agreement and that he wanted a deal for the information. Being decisive, Romeo offered to shorten the amount of time before his release by one month. The devil revealed that the creature was a Nagpa, but quickly grew bored of telling useful information and directed his attention to Ürsa and Gol'rotta, revealing he had been the one to give General Vadima the ideas for his heinous experiments inflicted on their respective people. On their trip back to Wahi Kao, Gol'rotta shared her concerns that War might be located in Frostbane based on the leader's erratic behavior. She also raised a concern to Romeo that she believed Aerefract had had a run in with Pestilence, feeling further justified in her concerns since it was nigh impossible for a mere mortal to inflict such a debilitating disease on a dragon. Without a way to immediately confirm or deny the possibility, it remained something they decided they would look into. Reaching the city border, the Undesirables wondered what might happen to them next since they had left in such a hurry. Convincing Romeo to release a pair of Magma Snails back to their home, it seemed as if the creatures understood it was her words that had freed them. A black pearl was deposited in her hand as she pet them in farewell. They were greeted with a hero's welcome and finally began the party they had been promised. During the festivities, Gol'rotta and Muzu began having shared visions of the hosts that had sealed the Riders away, their final celebration before making the ultimate sacrifice. Gol'rotta seemed to have taken some relief in no longer being alone in fighting an inner battle with the Riders, and with the connection between her and Muzu, the prior hosts having been spouses, she was immediately aware when Muzu's and Famine's souls left the mortal plane. She gathered the Undesirables and rushed to the temple of Poseidon to find Muzu's lifeless body in the sacred pool. She adjusted his armor and straightened his hair to make him presentable, and allowed Muzu's mother to shove her away without resistance when she came to the temple. At his funeral, she asked if she might perform rites of her clan, to which Kuzu and Tiuru said they would be honored. She sealed his tomb wit her frost breath and sprinkled iron powder over it to ward off malevolent spirits. As calm and respectful as she was on the outside, Gol'rotta was unsure of how to deal with the emotions she felt on the inside. Her inner turmoil came out in anger when she found that Ürsa had redacted Arseny Vadima's journal before having Astrid give it to her, stating that the duskman thought it was a conversation best discussed as a group with the entity Gol'rotta had latched onto her. Seeing it as being told she couldn't be trusted, Gol'rotta became furious and refused to speak to any of the Undesirables on the jouney back to Westfall. Her anger had not abated by the time they returned, reflecting in how she chose to address Vangelis, a new recruit, with a very brusque tone. Seeing him as just a boy and unwilling to see another person die near her, Gol'rotta decided to give him combat training, diving deep into intense sessions right off the bat. A little more than a week later, there was a knock on the door. Recognizing the obnoxious speed and that it continued without end, Gol'rotta knew that it could only be one person. When she answered, her suspicions turned out to be true and she greeted a small dragonborn, addressing her as Pip. The initial surprise of the appearance and mannerisms of their new guest made the Undesirables have a hard time believing her when she said she was Gol'rotta's sister. Clarifying that they were cousins, Gol'rotta finally got Pip to reveal her purpose in coming to Westfall. Pip told her that she had been summoned to testify before a war council and describe everything she had seen when dealing with General Arseny Vadima in Dugafjord. Al'durin was the first to volunteer to accompany her, which gave Gol'rotta the opportunity to ask all of her friends to come with. Stating that she had would need them there to verify her statements and requesting Magnus be there as the leader of the Undesirables to speak with the praetora, she had also promised Tethys, the silver dragonborn corrupted by Vadima's ritual, that she would bring her home. With everyone agreeing how important her mission was and ready to support her, the Undesirables prepared for a journey to the Argentum Bastian.Relationships
Praetor Kal'bortaash
The hatred between the two of them went one sided for a long time. Gol'rotta spent most of her time trying to get better and stronger to try and impress Kal'bortaash as a member of the clan, especially once he became the praetor. Her own resentments began to grow when the people around her started to be affected though. While she chose to do her best to give the clan leader no reason to hate her, it seemed to continuously make things worse for her and those close to her, especially her family members.Praetora B'lanna
The cousins grew up extremely close to one another. Being nearly the same age, the two rarely spent any time apart, from the kresh all the way through their schooling. When Kal'bortaash asked B'lanna to be his mate, a rift began to grow between her and Gol'rotta. B'lanna had accepted in hopes of alleviate Kal'bortaash's hatred and to bring the clan in a new direction. Gol'rotta remained unaware of how much B'lanna did behind the scenes to subtly help as best she could, but with time apart they began to become ever more distant with each other. Feeling as though B'lanna didn't care about her anymore, Gol'rotta left without saying a word to her. Their first correspondence since her departure from the clan was a letter addressed to the praetora in an official capacity.Sutra'ber
Gol'rotta and Sutra'ber never figured out how to communicate with each other well. Her cousin was a strange one and she herself was worried that getting to close to her, especially because of her influence from the fey, would cause Kal'bortaash to lash out at her. They respected each others' space while they lived together, each one silently looking out for the other in their own way. Gol'rotta has long assumed her cousin is disinterested in the mortal world, including her family.Arleith
Gol'rotta and Arleith had somewhat of a strange introduction with each other. When assigned to instruct Gol'rotta in fey survival, Arleith had anticipated a spoiled child used to getting her way and chose to go hard on her with the training. He had not anticipated her to appreciate such treatment, or for her to thrive under those conditions. A mutual respect grew between them and eventually blossomed into feelings for each other. These feelings were immediately silenced by Gol'rotta in an effort to protect Arleith from Kal'bortaash's ire and then later due to them being assigned to the same unit. Arleith maintains a somewhat flirty banter with her in such a way that those outside the Frostfangs might think it was just his humor, but their unit knows otherwise since he doesn't do so with anyone else.Lor'anna
Gol'rotta was not prepared for how much she would come to care for the strange child. While she had viewed her care as a duty very early, when she decided it would be best if she cared for the iunc'tura herself she became attached very quickly. The infant in exchange seemed to only attach the Sivak captain, making it hard to her to leave as she would fuss when left in the care of another member of the Undesirables. Unaccustomed to anything outside of warfare, Gol'rotta learned to cook and sew and would even try to set up supply shipments to her clan for their eventual return to the Argentum Bastion just for Lor'anna. Gol'rotta strongly believes that she could not have started a path of redemption without Lor'anna coming into her life and dreads the fact that she will eventually want to tell her about Hal'leae and her own part in her death.Character Information
