Valmeria

Valmeria is a city on the southern continent that was first settled by elves and humans. It is the only settlement that has successfully colonized the Miasma Tropics.

Description

Valmeria is a robust city with unique and intricate architecture that takes from traditional elvish and human structures combined with traits for the various tribal races culture into the designs. No one building looks alike, making it very distinct and easy to find where you're going in the grid shaped infrastructure of the city's layout. The border is secured by a wall surrounding the settlement with a thick wooden wall, made from solid tree trucks lined vertically next to each other. The city itself is divided into three sections based on what the function of the building is itself and not by the wealth one has.

Shipping District

This area is fairly exclusively for the biggest merchant houses that deal with other cities and nations across the world. They are closest to the ocean for ease of loading and unloading goods from the docks without interrupting the everyday lives of the citizens. There are a few inns and taverns peppered around for those on business or travels to rest and take a break. The shipping district is the main support to Valmeria's economy.
  • Council Roundtable: The seat of the governing body of Valmeria.
  • The Creaking Tub: One of the most well known inn and taverns in Valmeria.
  • The Bloody Essentials Monument: A statue of the heroes of Valmeria that changed the city and saved the Miasma Tropics.

Market District

This section of the city is in the middle, with various shops, with both luxury and necessity goods and services to purchase. The location is to give ease of access to all local goods for citizens and travelers alike. Establishment owners tend to live above their shops.
  • Lightfeather Legal: A kenku run establishment for legal services, specializing in contract disputes.
  • Buried Treasures: Something of an antique and thrift store.

Hearth District

This is the district where those that work outside the wall or make self sufficient livings for themselves reside.
  • The Gate: The ony landside access in or out of Valmeria.
  • Shepherd's Cottage: A home that has been preserved as a historical landmark.

History

Valmeria was founded under a joint expedition between humans and elves to try and settle the harsh and lush lands for the southern continent of Malgrave. The elves were mostly wood elf scouts and warriors for investigating the jungles and sun elves supplying and crewing the ships that set sail from the western continent. The humans were disgraced nobles from Westfall, unhappy with how things were run by their king. Seeking new lands of their own, a fleet of vessels sailed to the furthest reaches of the known world, a continent often referred to as the Land of Beasts for all of the bestial humanoid tribes that inhabited the harsh environment.   The city was founded at the cite the ships first landed, gradually expanding outward as parts of the Miasma Tropics were cleared for a settlement and farming fields. A rift between the founders began as the elves and humans argued over the best course of action. This was made worse when tribes of lizardfolk and orcs would start raiding and attacking area. Setting up a wall, the border of the settlement has never expanded or receded since as the tribes pushed back against expansion and the wall held against any attacks.   Due to the vast riches to be made, several of the established trading companies would eventually use their wealth and influence to bribe settlement leaders into favoring their sides. It became so rampant that it was no secret, just unspoken, that the merchant houses were really the ones in charge of the city. Crime became the way of the city and those that did not join it would fall to it.   In 2643AE, this would change when a band of mercenaries calling themselves The Bloody Essentials started removing criminal elements that threatened the people they cared about. In the vacuum of power left behind, their sponsor and ally, Mason Holcum was appointed the new leader of the city to reform the government and institute change that would finally benefit the working class people of Valmeria.
