Hal'leae Character in Malgrave | World Anvil

Hal'leae

Hal'leae is a wild elf ranger who appears in the Undesirables Campaign who later returns as a revenant. She is played by I.W.

Description

Appearance

As a wild elf, Hal'leae has a darker skin complexion, somewhere in a bronzed tone. Her hair is long and dirty blonde, tied and braided in ways of significance to her tribe. Her bright green eyes are usually filled with an intense focus. Her clothing is made of soft buckskin underneath hardened leather armor. Her hair has feathers and beads braided into it as well. Her main weapon is a longbow carved in the traditional methods of her tribe.

Personality

Distrustful of most people, Hal'leae is not one to get along with strangers unless there is an obvious mutual interest. This is often hard for her to tell as she is uneducated in formal schooling and was reclused with her nomadic tribe from other cultures. With little interest in the other people of the Golden Sea, her social skills and language are much more limited than people expect. This leads to her being both very blunt but easily confused by others.

Biography

Background

Hal'leae grew up in a roving tribe that migrated through the Golden Sea. Things were relatively peaceful, with their biggest concerns being wild predators. This changed when a large group of bandits came through their normal migratory path. Led by Garth Darros, her tribe was completely wiped out solely for what seemed like the bandit leader's amusement. Hal'leae was spared because of her expert stealth skills, however, from the corpses of her mother and step father, Garth found her younger sister. Revealing herself and threatening to kill him, Hal'leae and Garth came to a bit of a standoff as he used the infant as collateral. Holding this above her, he demanded she work for him as his spy, promising only to return her once Hal'leae's services were no longer required.

Meeting the Undesirables

The Undesirables first heard about Hal'leae from a captured bandit. Revealing her as an important piece in Garth's game to spare his own life, the ragtag group left knowning that she was, at the very least, unhappy with her situation. They caught evidence of her following them several times, but were generally unable to locate her the first two days. Evenually, Scumbag found fresh enough tracks to follow and the group found her alone. Outnumbered, Hal'leae nocked and drew two arrows at once to stand her ground. Trying to converse with her proved difficult and when the rest of the mercenaries caught up, the loud entrance of Kalgrim startled her and she loosed the arrows, both striking him in the neck   She surrendered immediately, realizing her situation, and threw down her bow. Still unable to get much useful information out of her, the Undesirables began to talk about what they should do with her. As the suggestion to kill her came up more and more frequently, she decided to run. Successfully disappearing into the tall grass, the mercenaries searched for her fruitlessly until Muzu used his innate ablilities to cause a gust of wind to push her back towards them, despite her hiding. Lying helpless on her back as they stood over her, she revealed that she had no choice in her actions because Garth had her sister. Kalgrim declared that it was too late to negotiate and decapitated her with his shield. This shook several members, disturbing them enough to at least give her a proper burial.   Later, one of the men working with Garth, Zakhar, would ask Ürsa to relinquish her body in exchange for him giving the Undesirables access directly to the bandit leader. He would refuse, and offer a different favor in return, hopefully leaving the elf's body to rest where it was.

Relationships

Garth Darros

It was known that Hal'leae hated Garth for the slaughter of her tribe and holding her infant sister hostage.

Lor'anna

It is assumed that Hal'leae had great love for her half-sister, as she was willing to sacrifice her own morals and lifestyle to try and rescue the infant.

Character Information

Quests

Hal'leae was a minor antagonist during The Undesirables first mission. While easily the second greatest threat, she also is dissatisfied with her position and could be potentially swayed to change sides. The greatest barrier is one of language and clashing cultures.

Legacy

Hal'leae is survived by her half sister, Lor'anna, a iunc'tura born to her mother and stepfather. While not directly responsible for the change, her death left a lasting impression on The Undesirables that made them rethink their methods.
