Undesirables Organization in Malgrave | World Anvil

Undesirables

The Undesirables is a guild of mercenaries comprised of members that have a bad reputation either from their race or past deeds. Their primary goal is to shift public opinion by performing acts of generosity and good so that people don't unfaily see them as villains. They are primarily located in Westfall.

Description

At its founding, the name was meant to be a misnomer. Their headquarters is located in Westfall in a mansion donated to the leader. Each room is given out as personal quarters to each member and applications are open to all, with the hopes tha the homeless and downtrodden will join if only to get a roof over their head and food in their bellies. The core of the group is to do good for the community, but some often debate this due to the fact that it is still work they get paid to do, and not pro bono. Supporters of the group will quickly jump to the defense of The Undesirables, pointing out that it is the only way for many of the members to even have a job to earn a living. They take on almost any kind of job, from house sitting, to active military assistance. Each person who calls themselves part of the guild has a wide range of backgrounds, talents, outlooks and morals. The one thing they all stand together on completely is the overall goal of the groups as a whole. Do good.

Locations

Still too small to have several locations, The Undesirables only have their one primary location, though they will take a job anywhere in the world.
  • The Verdant Manor: The mansion and plot of land donated to the leader of the Undesirables when his mission statement was overheard.

Notable People

  • Magnus: The founder and leader of the group.

History

Magnus had wanted to become a hero in his youth after being inspired by the deeds of then Prince Brendan of Westfall. His first attempt was answering a call for aide by the Westfall military where he found that even as a responder to help the people, he was still treated poorly for being a tiefling. After his deeds during the conflict won over Dame Kaerynn Colburn, she encouraged him to continue pursuing his dream and suggested gathering a team of people with similar feelings to him so that it would show everyone people were not defined by their situations. The name was inspired by the warpriest accompanying the army, who would bitterly call the people of the Westfall slums 'undesirables', which consisted mostly of half-orcs, half-elves, kenku and tieflings along with many humans that had fallen on hard times.   While Magnus wasn't confident he could assemble a team to him at first, this would change when he met Vitaal 'Axescar' Olingaranu in his travels to the east. An outcast of her tribe and treated poorly by the people around her, the goliath woman would end up joining him after Magnus' intervention on her behalf. Knowing it would take time to build a reputation, the two decided they were enough to get started since Magnus had magic and Vitaal had muscle.   Upon one of their return visits to Westfall, a goblin that had overheard the two discussing their plans for gathering new members and raising money to find a place to live, offered them his house free of charge. Figuring it was going to at least be a roof over their heads, the two accepted only to be shocked when the address revealed that the goblin was the owner of the Verdant Manor, Dwicker Deekrit. The mansion then became the base of operations for the newly formed Undesirables and each room is reserved for any new member that doesn't have housing elsewhere.

Four Riders Conflict

The Undesirables played a major role in the conflicts the return of the Four Riders of the Apocalypse had on Malgrave. During their first official mission, they happened to face Garth Darros who was serving as the host for the Rider, Death. Upon his death, the Aspect of Death transferred over to Sivak Gol'rotta, where it began to prey on her mind and soul so as to try and take over her body.   Their second major job saw the Undesirables hired by the Brides of St. Cuthbert and the city of Dugafjord to investigate strange disappearances in the surrounding villages. It would be revealed that General Arseny Vadima of Frostbane was behind the incidents, testing his creations and gathering people to experiment on. With what they knew with the Aspect of Death and the type of person the leader of Frostbane was reputed to be, several members began to suspect Warlord Quintessence to be the host of the Aspect of War.
