Vitaal 'Axescar' Olingaranu

Vitaal is a goliath barbarian who appears in the Undesirables Campaign. She is played by I.W.

Description

Appearance

As a goliath, Vitaal's skin is pale and covered with the dark grey markings that all of them do. Hers are far less geometric, instead being long, curving lines that look like listing smoke. She has long, black hair with the sides of her head shaved and the rest tied back in a ponytail and some tribal braids. She has dark colored eyes, almost appearing to be as black as her pupils. Standing over seven feet tall, she has a powerful build with large and well defined muscles. Most of her clothing is rugged and roughly mended, but with her arms left bare. He most distinguishable feathure is a large, deep scar that goes through her left eyebrow and all the way up at a slight angle into her hairline.

Personality

Vitaal is very straightforward and blunt. Seemingly having no awareness or care of other peoples' feelings, she will often say what she thinks of people without much thought. Her own feelings about other people are well known to the other. While boisterous and confident, she is very self conscious about her own intelligence. With the damage to her head and the memory loss caused by it, she will often rub the scar absentmindedly whenever her ideas and vocalized thoughts are questioned. Despite all of this, she is a fiercely loyal companion and a proud member of the Undesirables.

Biography

Background

In her youth, Vitaal was a member of the Olingaranaru Tribe, a small band of goliaths that roam the Evergloom Peaks. A powerful fighter and excellent tracker, she was allowed to come on a raid on Guilder to help the villagers rid themselves of a corrupt land baron. During the fighting, she managed to find the baron on the battlefield and engage him in combat. Still young, Vitaal was no match in skill and experience, but held her own due to her toughness. The fight seemed decided when the baron drove his greataxe into her head, dropping her to her knees. Unable to pry it back free, the baron turned to leave, only for Vitaal to stand and yank the weapon out of her own head, using it to cleave the man in two. Earning her first nickname, 'Axescar', it was a mark she wore with pride after her recovery. In time, it was noticed that she would forget things more and more frequently, giving the impression that she was no longer able to pull her weight in the tribe as she needed more and more help. This turned her badge and name of honor into one of shame, causing her to eventually leave quietly in the night.
Vitaal found herself doing odd jobs, mostly heavy lifting or clearing out bandits, to pay her way through the valley east of the Evergloom Peaks. It wasn't difficult or problematic for her until she can to an unnamed trading post. The people there noticed her memory issues and began taking advantage of it, sending her to do one thing, only to tell her they hired her to to another when she returned. At her lowest she had ever been in her life, Vitaal chose to take them at their word, continually accepting that she had yet again made a mistake. When a tiefling came to the area and caught this happening, he claimed they were partners, demanding she be paid for everything she had done for them. When asking him later who he was, worried she had forgotten something even more important than ever before, he introduced himself as Magnus, an aspiring mage knight. Explaining that he had lied to get her what she deserved, her concern went ot relief and then gratitude, asking if he might want to be partners for real, even if she was a burden. With his assurance that she still had value and hadn't been a burden, she had to try her best to keep from crying as it had been the first time she had experienced someone looking out for her without disdain. The two have been traveling together ever since, hoping to make his goals come to fruition.

The Undesirables

Vitaal is the second in command of the Undesirables, though she tends to lend her aid in combat more than she leads. She will often insist on being on the front lines and pushes for the team to assert their dominance over a situation.
She did lead one mission with herself and Scumbag as the two members of the team answering a job to clear out a dwarven mine, subsiquently recruiting Neilina and Ayache Noc'reus.

Relationships

Magnus

As the first person to help uplift her and assure her that she doesn't have to do everything on her own, Vitaal is incredibly loyal to Magnus. While they have their banter and disagreements, the two have been fast friends since they started working together. As someone who wishes to be useful and relied upon, Vitaal will not let Magnus' claim of her being part of his found family go unrequited. They cover each others' weaknesses and make a surprisingly strong lead team for their mercenaries.

Nuha Sisavi

Vitaal cares deeply for Nuha, behaving almost as a doting older sister. The relationship may come as a shock to any onlookers since the two are nearly polar opposites. Vitaal takes on a role of protector and a sort of emotional mentor to Nuha, while the yuan-ti seems to help provide the goliath woman with reassurances that she is a vital member of the team. Vitaal seems to value Nuha's opinion more than others since she has stated that she doesn't understand the point of lying.

• The Porcelain Golem- There is a folk story spreading throughout the eastern continent about a heroine from the mountains the people call 'The Porcelain Golem'. A tale about an unkillable and unbreakable golem made in the likeness of a woman who protects the poor from evil. Those that have met her strongly suspect this tale is about Vitaal from her battle in Guilder.
