The Undesirables Act 2: Scratches on the Surface

Strange Tidings

The chapter begins with a letter addressed to the Undesirables, with direction to deliver specifically to Sedulous if he is still a part of the group. With the seal of the Church of Ilmater, the contents reads:   “To the Undesirables,   While I don’t understand the misnomer of your name, I have to give credit for the good you that you seem to be doing. Truthfully, I would not be alive if it weren’t for you. As much as I wish this were just a thank you, I have the fortune of being able to extend a job opportunity to you. Due to the nature of the situation, it would be easier to meet in person to discuss the details. I write this because I don’t know where your base of operations are and it even took me some time to figure out just the city you were located in. If you are interested in continuing to do good, please meet me at the House of Mercy Chapel for details.
  Warm regards,
Brother Cade”

A Rich Offer

After three months, the next big job arrived from Brother Cade, a former bandit given a second chance by Sedulous. Romeo showed extreme distrust, while everyone seemed a little split but not firmly convicted in either direction. Preparations were made for travel and combat before flying to Two Ports. Upon arrival, it was noticed that the emblem on the shield Romeo carries matches that of a trading company logo. Bursting in and accusing them of piracy, Gol’rotta calmed the situation enough to avoid further incident. Deciding they should rest for the day before heading to Dugafjord, they stopped to compete in the Turtledome Arena. While signing up, a man seemed to have a case of mistaken identity with Ursa.

Battle at the Turtledome

The fights in the arena went well overall for the Undesirables. All had won their fights, but Romeo seemed to be cut off from Aerefract during his bout, deeply unsettling him. Gol’rotta defeated the current low level champion with a single hit. During the fighting, Ursa found the man that had talked to him and listened in on a conversation he was having with a uniformed man. The information learned was suspicious, as they seemed to know of Gol’rotta’s clan, but not the dragonborn herself. After collecting their winnings, Romeo returned to the Wish Fish Trading Company for a calmer discussion. Angry Aerefract seemed to be ignoring him, the dragon had a short conversation to reassure him. Reluctantly leaving the building again, they were going to settle in for the evening when a ship with men and women wearing the same uniforms as the man in the arena began loading the ship. Noticing several dragonborn that all seemed tarnished in some way, they watched as the silver one and a soldier disembarked. The human went inside and left the dragonborn by herself. Kalgrim went to talk to her, but it became clear she didn’t have the mental capacity to understand what was going on. Attempting to remove the iron collar around her neck, it burned in resistance to being unfastened, causing the creature to lash out. Romeo was downed almost immediately as she retaliated against him for stabbing her. Demanding they not kill her, Gol’rotta hesitated for what to do as the Undesirables tried to subdue the other dragonborn. At a command, she immediately quit fighting as the soldier came out shouting in draconic. Gol’rotta grabbed him by the throat and demanded answers, to which he offered none. Summoning a shadow hound to protect him, the conversation was still hostile but less heated. Tolliver suspected the dragonborn was enslaved and fetched a guard. The soldier provided documents and after a brief deliberation, let the matter drop. As the soldier went to leave, Scumbag picked his pocket to steal the papers before the man and dragonborn rode off.

Suspicious Links

Frustrated, the Undesirables turned their attention to the ship the soldier, Alexei, came from. After examining the papers Scumbag had stolen, it was agreed that there was something suspicious going on. Ursa went to see if he could spy on the boxes and get an idea what was inside and was overwhelmed by the smell of blood. Reporting back, he decided to see if he could also check out the ship as the boxes were loaded. Whether by design or accident, Scumbag provided enough of a distraction for Ursa to transform into a spider and crawl onboard. There he discovered the contents of the crates were fresh corpses. Relaying this to the group, as well as some of the personal stuff to Gol’rotta, they rested and headed out in the morning toward Dugafjord. The people that they passed in the smaller villages were busy, but it was still noticed that there was a bit of unease about them. When they reached their destination, they were guided to the base of operations for the relief effort. Mother Esther gave them their instructions and the promise to look into the implications that Frostbane may be at the heart of the problem. Starting their task, they were directed to speak with a survivor of the attacks, a veteran named Caleb. He told them to the best of his recollection what he had seen and expressed his belief that the attacks were executed by draconians. Gol’rotta has been withdrawn but visibly angry with the more that is learned about the dragonborn that had been seen in Two Ports and the revelations it brought. Settling in so that they can set out first thing in the morning, Ursa decided to wander the city and take it in, followed by Scumbag. The two saw the same man from the arena that had addressed Ursa earlier and listened in on the conversation he was having with the yet unnamed military man. Vague mentions of plans were hushed quickly, but eventually came back up as they ate a meal. Much was revealed, but with no context there isn’t much to make of it.

Draconians

Settled in for the night, Ursa is bothered by some of the implications and has trouble sleeping. He has a conversation with Sister Astrid that seems to make things potentially worse for him unintentionally. In the morning the party headed to Saltshore after receiving a map from Mother Esther. Upon their hike, it was discovered that the town had been razed and stripped of valuables, resources and people. On the shore, they identified draconians claiming to be fishermen. Rightfully suspicious, the party attacked, trapping a medium sized boat from being able to bring reinforcements right away. The battle underway, their enemies were not the hardest to fell, but they still hit back incredibly hard, causing Gol’rotta to get taken down. Ignoring Aerefract, Romeo dropped back to give her aid. Muzu had taken to the water to attack the larger boat when he was attacked by the ‘draconian’ codenamed Solar Flare. He took a heavy bite to his shoulder, causing him to drop the wall of water, but managed to cast a spell to paralyze the dragonborn before jumping onto the boat, ready to confront the occupants…

More Questions than Answers

The fight is long and bloody, many of the Undesirables coming close to going down. On the boat, a few of the occupants bailed out of the ship, leaving Muzu to fight three on his own rather than six. With a gust of wind, he knocked all of them off and with the momentum the boat gained, ran one of them over. Holding their breath, Tolliver and Romeo attacked from below the water’s surface to keep the sun out of their eyes with deadly effectiveness. With shots from the shore, Scumbag managed to bring down the gold dragonborn before he could do too much damage. Gol’rotta dragged him to shore while the others took out the rest of the soldiers. Searching the two bodies they had, they found that the collar had come off the dragonborn, which Romeo recovered before it was lost to the tides. A ledger was found and the party decided urgency was necessary. Half ran back to Dugafjord as quickly as possible while the other half remained to figure out a way to transport the dragonborn back. The returning party discovered a few pieces of valuable information while letting the Brides of St. Cuthbert know of the suspected danger.

The Comforts of Home

Ursa had a little more of a private conversation with Sister Astrid. Over tea and behind locked doors, they shared their burdens with each other. Revealing his curse, Ursa was afraid it would upset Astrid. To the opposite effect, she seemed encouraging for him to make it his own and turn it into a gift. In exchange, she revealed her own traumatic past that brought her so far south of her home. Furious at the discovery of the torture she endured, Ursa vowed to find who had done this, possibly to both of them, and make them answer for it. Some weight lifted from both of them, they reminisced about home and enjoyed their tea together for a while longer before going back out to face what was to come.

Tiny Spies

Gol’rotta, Kalgrim and Romeo fashioned a sled stretcher to transport the bound and unconscious dragonborn to Dugafjord. There was some discussion over what was right and wrong, particularly involving the draconians since Gol’rotta had made her intent to rescue them clear, despite the fact that they attacked. On their way, a pair of hunters met their path and followed them to Dugafjord with little interesting interaction, but they were answering the call for mercenaries. On their return, the dragonborn was awakened in an enclosed room. Sister Abigail performed a ritual to undo a Feeblemind spell. Leaving the creature to recover, they set out to collect the last people in danger from the list they had found on the enemies slain in Saltshore. On the way, Scumbag noticed a rat behaving abnormally. Chasing it down, they captured it before it managed to slip into a sewer drain. Retracing the rodent’s path, Scumbag found that it had been sitting on the windowsill of a guard house where Captain Graden had been making defense plans. There was a debate about scrapping all plans and how to create a new one. In the meantime, Ursa used his wild shape ability to turn himself into a rat. Following the sewers, he saw hundreds of rats coming from every direction piling in before heading the same way through the sewer system. The path ended when they came to the dwelling of Zaplata. Ursa revealed himself, only to get a warning from the man that he had been tasked to kill the Undesirables. Not wishing to and not yet in a position to be found out for letting him escape, he allowed Ursa to leave. The party converged after picking up the baron and his wife before making their way back to the chapel to begin starting their preparations.

Investigative Journalism

The team began their day with the package delivery from Desha Windstrider arriving. Gol’rotta passed on a letter to be brought to the Praetora of her clan. Magnus arrived shortly after, having finished his separate mission. Alongside him was a new face, Jackson, who had crossed paths and wished to help. Most initial trust issues were held by Gol’rotta, not helped by the fact that Scumbag accompanied Vitaal on a job picked up on the way to Two Ports. They first went to interrogate Solar Flare. His speech was broken but still managed to convey many important details about what has been happening with Frostbane’s plans in Dugafjord. Deciding to investigate where Taggart and his contact were last seen after noticing yet another citizen with rat bites, Muzu and Gol’rotta noticed at least a third of the population of the city seemed to be bandaging minor wounds despite never participating in combat. Concerned that there might actually be a wererat problem, they hurried their way. Interviewing the barkeeper and a server, they learned that the silver dragonborn had been seen with a local lord. There was a debate over whether to deal with Taggart and the potential wererats or go to the mansion and take on at least one caster and a Draconian. They compromised by sending Kalgrim with the two bounty hunters to the sewer and going to the lord’s mansion themselves. There they found the mansion looking deserted and uncared for, for a noticeable amount of time. Hoisting Romeo over the gate, they found that there was an illusion over the wall, hiding a destroyed part of the wall. The mansion itself seemed to have magical traps set in place, so they scaled the outside to a second story window with Jackson’s help and recommendations. Looking through a few rooms, they snuck through, guided by Romeo and found a few papers indicating that two separate people had been using the office, one of which was General Arseny. Creeping down the stairs, Romeo and Muzu caused the stairs to creak. A few moments later, the lights went out for everyone and sounds indicated they were not alone…

Ice and Shadow

In the darkness, Alexei called his shadow hound and Aurora Borealis to his side. Evening the odds, Muzu brought up a fog cloud to obscure the team from the shadow sorcerer. Spells were slung on both sides. The party upstairs quickly dispatched the shadow hound and made their way downstairs. A fairly bloody battle, Romeo brought down Alexei while everyone tried to bring down Aurora. It was a feint, and he used a Dimension Door to get to the door. Before leaving, he gave Aurora a final order to use her breath weapon again, a move that would kill her due to the strain the collar put on her body. Romeo did not let him escape, chasing him out the door just fast enough to catch him with his Storm Aura, finishing him for good with a stab to the heart. As Aurora lay dying, the Undesirables poured as much healing as they could to prolong her death, managing to get just enough time for Ursa to make it back to the chapel for the Brides to save her, much to Mother Esther’s chagrin. Gol’rotta, following behind but not as fast as Ursa shaped into a warhorse, thanked Astrid profusely and gave Ursa a bone crushing hug of gratitude. The rest gathered more evidence and brought it back to Esther and Baron Walson. Mother Esther’s methods were brought into question and the baron assured the Undesirables that he and the city appreciated their work and would not let the evidence go to waste. They had lunch with Abigail and Astrid at a high end bistro and decided to start planning their next move.

Revelations

Not wanting to stick around after the party grilled him, Ursa paid and left the bistro before anyone else, quickly followed by Sister Astrid. They had some heartfelt conversation and a touch of flirting. Astrid tried to encourage Ursa to turn his curse into a gift and while Ursa wasn’t hopeful, he was warmed by her encouragement. They wandered the city, sharing a dessert treat, ending up at the mural to reminisce about home before heading back to the chapel.

Once Bitten, Twice Shy

Shopping was done by several of the party, picking up more healing potions and a few magical ones for fun. Meanwhile, in the sewers, Kalgrim went tracking with the other two mercenaries, looking for Taggart. A slight confrontation with Tatiana escalated quickly, revealing their location to a couple very large creatures. Leaving behind the berserker in a rage to deal with them on her own, she reappeared later unscathed. When Ursa and Astrid returned, they aided Gol’rotta with the help of Romeo to remove the curse from Aurora Borealis. While taking some downtime, Jackson was visited by the half-elf youth, Talwyn, seeming to try and make good on her promise to help. With the new information she provided, they tried to plan the next step. With news that Arseny’s ship was on lockdown, they decided staying and resting to finish removing the threat from Dugafjord first was the best course of action. They were awakened by a high pitched noise coming from what seemed to be an omnipresent instrument. Citizens that had received rat bites began changing into wererats, causing panic and chaos in the city. The sound also affected Ursa, who managed to lock himself in a room before the shift happened fully. A brief confrontation with Astrid had the Undesirables going to deal with the wererats while she went to be there for Ursa. Ursa managed to cast a spell that forced himself to revert back to human form. Meanwhile, as the chaos broke loose on the city and the Hands of Mercy and the Brides of St. Cuthbert preoccupied with the wererats on the church grounds, the Undesirables stepped out to deal with the rest of the problem. Attacks were made with not much having a lasting effect. Tolliver noticed a small group of wererats that seemed coherent and were trying to sneak into the church grounds. With not much else to do or plan for, they braced themselves for a fight.

Vermin

The battle began with the quick realization that silver or magic was needed to hurt the frenzied lycanthropes. Romeo and Jackson were having trouble on their own, with Romeo taking a bite that caused him to contract the curse. With the sound still in the air, he felt himself start to shift, but with a power surge from Aerefract, he managed to keep the transformation at bay while fighting. Tolliver managed to bring down two of the cohesive wererats, a third being taken out by Gol’rotta, but one managed to escape inside to the grounds. Seeing that the brides were taking care of things on the other side of the wall, he went to join the fight in the courtyard. Muzu conjured a wall of water to make it harder for the wererats to get in. Ursa and Kalrgrim went straight into the streets to try and rescue civilians, only for Ursa to be horrified as he watched the forms melt away into citizens of Dugafjord when they perished. Pushing forward, they made it to the edge of the town proper where Romeo received a psychic message from Molly Baskins asking for help and relaying that enemies had gotten inside. Struggling both with the curse and the stacking damage, Romeo chose to stay and help the immediate civilians around him. In the chaos, several citizens were trying to get into locked buildings for safety and being denied by those already inside. Masking his voice to be like the baron’s, Jacques managed to trick them into opening the door just long enough to save several. Magnus joined the fight, followed shortly by Sister Astrid and Sister Abigail. With their help, enemies were being pushed back and Astrid even shifted some of the civilians back into human form to get to the chapel for safety. As the tides began to turn in their favor, Taggart made an appearance. Despite a confident attitude, he was quickly killed by Ursa with a lightning bolt as he tried to make a break for the chapel as well to some unknown end. To the horror of the Undesirables, his appearance had been accompanied by the Draconian known as Acid Rain. Shredding into several of them, he brought Magnus down where he was immediately stabbed by a guard that had been transformed into a wererat, nearly fatally wounding him. Gol’rotta came to his rescue, healing him enough to get him back on his feet. Muzu and Tolliver went to find the spellcaster that would have had control over Acid Rain. They found him in the city park square, hearing him give a short conversation to an unseen accomplice. Without even giving him a chance to react to his presence, Tolliver ran him through with his lance, finishing him off with a fire breath from a potion he had fed Artano. As he fell, a small, silver music box dropped from his hand. The noise stopped and people began reverting back to their normal forms. With that dealt with, Muzu cast a Hold Person on Acid Rain, paralyzing him in place with Magnus casting a charm spell on him to calm him. The battle had been won, but the cost was not yet known to them.

Rising Tensions

Coming back onto the chapel grounds after their victory, they were met with a sight of carnage. While out fighting, the church was invaded and most of the Brides of St. Cuthbert and the Hands of Mercy were dead or dying. Finding Brother Cade, they learned that the enemy had been held off enough to protect the baron and his wife, but Molly Baskins had been captured, taken by a werewolf and werebear that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Finding an entrance to the sewers that the enemy had exploited, Romeo jumped in to get into hot pursuit. The others followed immediately. Angry at the situation since he had wanted to check the sewers earlier, Romeo charged forward, leaving only the fastest to keep up and the rest to fall behind. Tolliver and Jackson were closest, and Zaplata guided them the most direct path to where the enemy was going. They met the enemy head on, near the mouth of the sewer that drained into the lake. Several draconians as well as a wizard and the two lycanthropes mentioned by Brother Cade, which were recognized as Tatiana and Nanook, were there, dragging a struggling Molly Baskins with them. Pushing past and killing the first draconian easily, Tolliver engaged the wizard, only to be brought down by an enraged Tatiana. Jackson killed the wizard with a well placed shot from his crossbow while Zaplata healed Tolliver enough to get him back into the fight. As the rest of the Undesirables caught up, Ursa pleaded to keep someone alive for questioning. Seeing that she was basically rabid and would be completely uncooperative, Gol’rotta put down Tatiana with a blow from her trusty maul after Ursa used a Moonbeam to shift her back into her human form. Fighting the rest of the draconians, Romeo succumbed to the toxic dust and turned to stone while the rest faced down Nanook. Tolliver tried to reason with him, but he declared that he took a job and he was going to complete it, despite not liking it. Tolliver used his Lightning Lure spell to free Molly from his grasp and they took him down. To Ursa’s dismay, Tolliver’s silver lance landed a fatal blow, killing rather than wounding the Half-Orc mercenary. Gathering Molly and the corpse of Tatiana, they headed back through the sewers to the chapel.
Mother Esther expressed her lament that the Undesirables were all alive, yet she had lost so many, a remark that extended to her disdain for Brother Cade as well and apparently severing the last piece of good will most of them had for her. The party started arguing amongst each other over what was and wasn’t, should or shouldn’t have been done. Jackson tried to offer comfort to Romeo, but was shrugged off immediately. Tolliver was upset that his fellow kobold was so upset with the fact that the party had rested after fighting Alexei and Aurora Borealis. Ursa was angry at Tolliver for killing Nanook, his personal stake in the matter being that he was afraid that if he revealed himself they might do the same to him. Jackson received word from Talwyn that Arseny was on his way back after cutting his losses and burning his ship in Two Ports. Unable to get anyone to listen at first, Ursa left, still upset and spent the rest of the night healing wounded. Astrid noticed how angry he was and rushed to his side, aiding him as he healed victims and watching over him as he rested. Their romance was brought into the open, however, at least between the two of them, bringing some much needed light into the dark night. Gol’rotta went to see the dragonborn she had freed, hoping to talk with Aurora Borealis for the first time since freeing her mind. Meanwhile, the rest argued how best to deal with Arseny. Romeo would not listen to any other plans, while Jackson tried to point out the flaws of any possible plan without more information. To his own reluctance and the surprise of the party, Magnus stepped up and told them what he wanted them to do as leader of the Undesirables. Bringing the first semblance of calm to the group, they finally settled in and agreed to productively put a real plan into action.

Breaking Point

After everyone was rested, Ursa went to gather everyone. Jackson had a slight confrontation with him, pressing a silver coin into his hand when offering a handshake and revealing the curse he’d been hiding. Despite this, he said there was no problem between the two of them and that he wouldn’t tell the Undesirables. Still a little strained, they set up a plan, inadvertently insulting Sister Astrid in the process. Sending Sister Astrid with Brother Cade and Molly Baskins to a smuggler’s ship. They decided to leave Captain Graden where he was, as his wounds looked grave and the clerics were having trouble removing the infection. New information sent by Talwyn let them know that ten enemies were returning to Dugafjord by three different methods. Gathering horses and assessing the docks, they decided the best plan was to wait by the docks and ride back to the church once they dealt with those coming by boat. Expert spotting from Muzu saw a boat that was identical to another that had already docked and put a wall of water around it. He and Romeo climbed aboard and confronted the sailor, quickly revealing him to be a Frostbane wizard, trying to make his way into port claiming his daughter was sick or injured. They dispatched him easily and saw the girl he was transporting. Romeo swam her to shore and gave her a healing potion. Jacques recognized Talwyn and revealed her as his contact. They rushed her to the church, where on the way Jacques noticed four figures flying across the sky, heading for Marcel’s mansion. They dropped off Talwyn and immediately headed for the mansion. The illusions were all gone, the magic traps dispelled, and the doors opened, inviting them in. Geared up for a fight, the Undesirables stormed in while Jackson slipped around the back. Arseny tried to start a conversation with them, but the party was in no mood to negotiate. And so they charged forward, ready to end the conflict of Dragonturtle Lake.

Retribution

Using the stolen scepter, Arseny managed to charm half the party, trying to buy time to negotiate. Instead, Tolliver and Gol’rotta rushed in and held up the Draconians and wizards. Using the distraction, Jackson took the opportunity to cut the hand holding the scepter and take it. Angry, Arseny revealed his true nature and attacked. Muzu held off a draconian and Plasma Storm while the rest fought. Romeo killed another, fighting one on one with it while the rest ran in to assist Gol’rotta. Kalgrim engaged Flash Fire, giving Gol’rotta the chance to fight Arsney herself. Ursa killed one of the wizards with a lightning bolt while Jackson shot and killed the other. The final blow on Arseny was dealt by Gol’rotta, who froze his head with her breath weapon before ripping it off. The fight wasn’t over though, as Tolliver had unknowingly been afflicted by a berserker curse. Knocking him out seemed to alleviate the state of bloodlust for the time being. Romeo and Tolliver had a heart to heart about their differences, both admitting their flaws but not taking fault. Returning back to the chapel, they were greeted by cheers and applause, victory achieved.

Demon Behind the Mirror

Rather than rest, the Undesirables decided to confront Romeo about the mirror he had found, containing a devil inside. He wouldn’t do so without the trade of having the scepter for his horde pile. It was reluctantly given by Gol’rotta. They talked to the entity, who claimed to have forgotten his name, though Gol’rotta pointed out that having a demon or devil’s true name gave you power over them and he likely would not tell them. Deciding to call him Juliet, they conversed about what Arseny had planned for him. Deciding it was nothing useful, they finally went to sleep. Gol’rotta ended up having a dream, the Aspect of Death attached to her from Garth’s death coaxing her to kill the weak and helpless. Staunchly refusing, she held Death at bay, but it promised to be back. It stated that the Four must ride for the sake of Malgrave. Waking with a start, she told the party of her dream, with Tolliver making the connection to Garth’s cultists. Confessing her broken oath to Ursa, Gol’rotta feared for her future, though was given very unconvincing reassurances from her ally. They questioned ‘Juliet’ again, finding out that it was a reference to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Romeo made a deal with him to release him in a year if Juliet did his best to keep him safe and tell them everything he knew about it. Filled once again with unease rather than peace, the Undesirables went back to sleep as best they could. In the morning, Jackson had left, leaving behind a copy of the article he had promised to write for them.

The Sun and the Spiders

Vitaal and Scumbag traveled west, looking for the separate job Magnus had taken on. Unbeknown to Scumbag, Vitaal got them lost several times, adding a day to their travels. When they did reach their destination, they saw an aasimar in a debate about safety and supplies. Scumbag interrupted to announce the arrival of the Undesirables for the job and upon hearing so, the aasimar woman introduced herself as Neilina and offered to help. While Scumbag was reluctant, Vitaal was encouraging to her. Much to Scumbag’s chagrin, she proved to have a similar skill set to his and was very adept at them. Upon encountering carrion crawlers, Vitaal took heavy wounds, but they managed to kill all of the ones present before pushing further. Deciding against following a mass of spiders, they instead went down a clear path, encountering a drider who said her name was Ayache. Neilina took to her immediately, asking her to come along and help. With Ayache’s assistance, they scaled a ventilation shaft and found what the real problem was; a yochlol who had been sent by Lolth to deal with Ayache but couldn’t find her. There was a fight in which she went through several of her forms, but was eventually slain with Scumbag getting the finishing blow. Finding the storage room on their way back, all three skimmed some adamantine before heading out to claim their reward. Gold in hand, Scumbag split off from the other three, heading back to Dugafjord while they followed Vitaal back to the Verdant Manor.

Celebrations and Farewells

The morning found the group rested well enough for the circumstances. Scumbag returned from his adventure into the Underdark with Vitaal, telling poorly interpreted tales of what happened. The citizens of Dugafjord were preparing to host a party for them and their victory. Several conversations were had as things got underway, Muzu asking Gol’rotta about her dream and sympathizing with her as a fellow paladin. Molly was talked to by several members of the party, Romeo assisting with passing out baked goods by pelting people, Gol’rotta asked for a cookbook to bring home to her clan, and Ursa asked her if she wished to accompany them back to Westfall. She accepted since it was pointed out that Arseny had been after her and they would be willing to help her restore her memory. Ursa also asked Abigail and Zaplata if they would be willing to come as well, both declining for their own reasons but giving ways to keep in touch if they were ever needed. After a pie eating contest in which Romeo narrowly won over Kalgrim, they packed their things and bartered passage back to Westfall. Romeo talked to Aerefract, asking what he might know about the captain’s dream. He didn’t give much more than they already knew, but took the opportunity to tell Romeo how proud of him he was for how he handled himself in Dugafjord.

Growing Reputation

Back in Westfall, the group settled back in after a slight panic of meeting a drider and fighting over a mysterious bottle found by Magnus. Gol’rotta asked Molly to teach her how to bake and eventually went to officially adopt Lor’anna, the half orc, half elf child in her care. Several other members went to spend their hard earned reward, bettering their equipment. Romeo went to the library in search of information on diseases that could affect a dragon, getting help from Scumbag who also went to get a book to self teach how to play the pan flute Zaplata had given him. Muzu commissioned a cloak for Scumbag due to his fear of water while Kalgrim went on to vastly improve his armor. Tolliver also bought masterwork plate armor and hung out with Kalgrim while they did so. After months of improved jobs and good income, a surprise visitor from Muzu’s hometown came to invite them to a party being thrown for them on behalf of his parents. Giving themselves a month to get ready, they all look forward to something they hope is less dark than things have been for them as the chapter comes to a close.
