Sovereign's Isle

Island of imperial power.

"From anywhere on the island you look up to the palace. It was designed that way. A reminder to the noble families that the emperor watches over them."

Securing the Capital

After Temur Dodai established the Bral Empire there was unrest within the nation. In order to secure the seat of power his son - Tolon Dodai - after becoming emperor made the decision to create a more defensible position from which to rule the young nation. In order to do so, he turned to the skies beyond Breharan.   One nearby island had long played a role in the folk stories of Bral and was close enough from which to rule but still accessable only by ketzlat - and now skyship though there are none in imperial hands. It became Tolon's life's work to create a new capital on the island, a task that he would not live to see completed.

Practical Materials

The stone for the streets, fortifications, and palace were all mined from the island itself due to the difficulty of transporting it from Breharan. This gives the new capital a very unique look compared to all of the stone structures of Bral due to the difference in the color of the stone.

Moving the Powerful

Before the emperor and the people around him could move to Sovereign's Isle, many people had already been living there for some time. First the builders and logistical staff, then the support staff to put the finishing touches on the living spaces and be ready to maintain the same lifestyle the royals expected back in their home provinces.   When everything was ready, the intended inhabitants moved to the island. The emperor lives in the @palace while each of the noble families has a villa of their own.

Changing Times

The defenses of the Sovereign's Isle have always been impressive. There was little chance of succeeding with a mounted aerial assault given the vast array of archers and heavy ranged weapon emplacements on the island. A ground assault would be even more deadly with the streets of the city always climbing up to the palace and making sharp turns giving the advantage to the defenders.   Now with the presence of skyships, the island has had to upgrade its defenses against a possible seige. Cannons are the weapon of choice for fighting these vessels - aside from Skyknights boarding the ships. Engineers in Bral are paid well to ensure the emperor has cannons with more range than anyone else.
