Geetan Archipelago

People's home on the Astensea.

Come fair winds and calm seas,
come good luck and ease.
His net full but still be,
right back here to me.
— Traditional prayer for fishermen

The Thousand Islands

The Geetan Archipelago is home to the nation of Tamazee who have built their homes upon the many islands that populate the largest body of water on Breharan. The islands vary in size but most of what are called the 'Thousand Islands' are simply rocks sticking out of the water. There have been several people who have counted the islands but the results varied, likely because of inaccuracy and because some of the islands may only be above the water's surface when the water level is lower.

Bare Rocks and Bountiful Waters

Among the islands of the Geetan Archipelago there are only a handful of large islands that contain trees and other resources. The people of the islands have long taken the lumber they need from the forest on the seashore and traded for other resources not found on the rocks of their homes.   The waters however are full of the sea's bounty. The people fish the waters for food and cultivate various waterplants which they dry and use for many different purposes. The people used to fight over the areas where the biggest schools of fish were but the Agreement of Fishing Territories put an end to violent conflict over those resources - even if the animosity remained for much longer.

The Water's Warmth

The large amount of water helps keep the temperature of the archipelago stable. Combined with the mountains that block much of the winter wind from affecting the region, this makes the Geetan Archipelago one of the most temperate regions of Breharan.

This article is being worked on, perhaps not at this very moment, but it is being worked on.

The Sky's Tears

The people of the archipelago believe that their waters are a gift from their sky diety, Astrenza. It was the suffering of the people that moved her to tears which rained down and flowed into what is now known as the Astrensea. The region where the tears first touched the ground became the Salt Flats, a white landscape where nothing lives and the wind stings.

Fae Friendship

Stories of Fae encounters in Bral are almost all about danger and violence. In Burim they tell of pranksters who play tricks on unsuspecting victims.   The stories are much different in the Geetan Archipelago. The Fae of the Astrensea have not been forced to move as civilization encroached and haven't come into the same conflict with the people of Tamazee as they have in other nations.   Instead, the stories are more likely to involve creatures who jump out of the water to see - and to be seen - by passers by, who show sailors to schools of fish, and who save those who are drowning.
