Mitlind

General Information

Once marred by wars and used as a staging ground for conflicts between other nations, Mitlind has become an example of how the people of a country can stand united against outside threats and the powers of violent oppression. Mitlind has survived thanks to its parliament and the diverse nature of settlements within its borders.

The Mitlind Mountains which divide the country in two make trading with its neighbours much easier, as it keeps them from making any exclusive alliances with either Hydenbur or Morris Cove.

Geography

As stated before, Mitlind is bisected by the Mitlind Mountains. While these mountains are home to many dangerous creatures, there are safe passages across them. Most notably, the mountain pass between Darholm and M'orn boasts the safest travel and sees the largest number of travellers between its gates.

Due to this bisection, the climate varies greatly on either side of Mitlind. As one travels further West, the wind becomes stronger and colde. While as one travels East, the wind slows, while temperatures and humidity rise. This results in strange weather patterns above Mitlind, as certain parts of the country can experience torrential rainfall only to be followed by cloudless skies the following day.

The Mitlind Parliament

Mitlind's democratically ellected officials are representatives of each of its major settlements. They bring with them their own values and entourages. While each town recieves its own representative, major factions within Mitlind are also given a voice. These factions include:
  • House Canter
  • House Farlow
  • The Mitlind Priory
  • The presence of these factions assists with decision making within parliament house. They also serve as a third-party capable of breaking ties when new bills and legislation are put forth.

    Organizations and Ethos

Mitlind has no single ideal that they hold above others. While their neighbouring countries war over who's beliefs are right, Mitlind maintains a strictly neutral position, believing instead that while everyone may express their own beliefs freely, they are always stronger when they stand together. This is based off of the old common phrase Iuntus Nos Sto.

Each settlement in Mitlind has its own beliefs, ranging from Ellbridge's ideals of shared knowledge to Burn Harbour's ideology of "non-permenance."

    History

Mitlind's history has been defined by the following events:

    Age of Tower Worship (600-800)
Long before Dossil was three separate countries, it was a collection of roaming bands that often did battle with one another. In these days, magic was new and few understood the will of the gods. Despite this, several bands claimed they were able to speak with the gods. And not only that, but also use their power in the mortal realm.

As more bands of divinely gifted rose in the central regions of Dossil, so too did the belief that all things must crumble, the belief that The Tower would destroy their world in fvour of a better one. One where all could harness the power of immortality that only those of The Heavens and The Darkworld could control. Over two hundred years The Tower gained followers, having them slowly build towers across the face of the continent. While many were scheduled to be built, only four were ever recorded to be completed.

    First Dossil War (1510 - 1570)
For 60 years the armies of Morris Cove and Hydenbur warred over the unclaimed territory between them.

After both sides had suffered horrendous losses, Hydenbur and Morris Cove decided to call a truce. The communities in this land banded together to create a new country, Mitlind, under the rule of their own parliamentary government.

    Second Dossil War (1650 - 1690)
After 80 years of undisturbed peace As a result, Mitlind raised it's own guerilla companies comprised of rangers and guardsmen from different cities and towns to defend their homes. Finding the opposition from two countries too difficult to manage against, both Hydenbur and Morris Cove retreated leaving Mitlind some time to grieve and bury their thousands of innocent dead.

    The Founding of M'orn
Shortly after the conclusion of the Second Dossil War, the people of Mitlind came to discover a mass grave, populated by thousands of innocent dead. It is believed that these were used as a sacrifice as a means to put an end to the Mitlind resistance. Due to this, many came to mourn the thousands forced to die in the bloody conflict.

Eventually, this pilgrimage became its own settlement, and then its own town fittingly named @orn.
