Session 4: Gravday, 27 Twisting Veil, 1417
General Summary
After meeting the Horned Monkey-like creatures, the party has decided to join forces with them to escape from the Mushroom Seam. The leader of the pack instructed Kaziel that they will be staying the night in the Temple, resting before making their push into their underground home towards a ravine that had been opened.
As everyone settled down for the night around the campfire created Kaziel, Bixi played her pan flute and danced, though the Horned Monkeys did not respond, being that they had no ears and could not listen. However, Evsalom appeared to enjoy the music, mentioning his surprise that a gnome could play so well, as the fearsome gnomes he had encountered in Netviz had not struck him as being the most civilized.
Davaa approached Nadir and Darcassian to discuss the topic of Merrilyn. In an earlier, private conversation, Davaa had learned that Darcassian knew of Merrilyn, but had stated that he was “lost.” With Nadir acting as translator, Davaa learned that the Merrilyn Darcassian had known was also connected to the Seams and likely the same person. Darcassian revealed to both Davaa and Nadir that there was more to his mission than just informing Merrilyn of his Oath Brother’s death. For some time before Merrilyn had left their tribe, he was known to always be surrounded by sheids. Many of them were friendly, playful even, but occasionally something dark would come. Soon after Merrilyn had left the tribe, one of these Sheids, a dark shadowy creature with tentacles, attacked and killed his Oath brother.
Kaziel, was listening in on this conversation, learning about Merrilyn as well.
The next morning, the leader of the pack requested that Bixi give to him all the gemstones, explaining that they would be used to create an elixir that could sustain them, and possibly help the party. There was some back and forth, as the party did not trust them, but when Bixi tasted a small amount of the elixir made in the bowl, she found it quite refreshing. The party received 4 waterskins of this elixir.
The party then proceeded to enter the underground tunnels beneath the ruins of the tower. They traveled through the glowing tunnels following the color-coded mushrooms and making their way to the home of the Horned creatures and the ravine that had been mentioned. Soon, they came to a large cavern where many of the Mouthless Horrors were. The monkeys split, rushing to the different tunnel mouths to fight the Mouthless, while their leader pointed to the northeast, instructing the party to follow the blue mushrooms and that they would meet later.
The party entered battle with two squadrons of the Mouthless and one of their Tentacled Horrors. As they fought, they watched as Horned Brutes were being taken down and fighting for their lives. Davaa considered jumping to their side and aid them, but the rest of the party was rushing to the blue tunnel, and they all ran toward their destination.
In time, they came to a crossroads in the tunnel, but they decided to continue down the blue path. They came across two of the Mouthless Stalkers, that they attempted to attack using stealth. However, Bixi jumped into their path and began throwing axes at them, breaking their surprise.
Their foes quickly dispatched, the party continued down the path, once again deciding to stick to the blue tunnels. Soon, they found themselves within another large cavern, this one with a large ravine splitting it down the center. Mouthless were slithering across the room, making their way to the edge of the ravine and dropping down into it. In the center of the room, a large mass with many hands and heads stood, watching over the other mouthless.
