Session 1: Oraday, 26 Twisting Veil, 1417

General Summary

Each of our intrepid adventurers has been on their own personal journey, traveling across the world on their way to the land known Sh'hoona. Through the twists and turns of their voyages, they all found themselves in the vicinity of a Rahott Malelian town that was in the midst of an ecstactic celebration. Some joined the celebration, dancing and enjoying themselves, whilst others wished to take no part in it. Whatever one's feelings towards the carnival, when the earth began to shake and crack, none of them were able to escape.   Toppling downward into the earth, the party was transported to another world, a world filled with silence and gigantic bulbous mushrooms. As they were hurled downward towards the forest, each of them found themselves landing in various discomforts.   Kaziel, a Tiefling nobleman, landed in the middle of a river. As he began to be washed away, he felt a hand grab him by his horn and pull him ashore. Upon the shore, he looked up to find a handsome human man, Evsalom, who spoke to him in the Pelsite language of Rahott Malelian nobility.   Davaa, a half-elven ranger, plopped onto the crown of a large mushroom, 30 feet above the ground. Looking for a way down, he decided to leap to the top of a shorter mushroom, but when he went to take a jump a chunk of the larger mushroom broke off beneath his feet and he took a tumble.   Nadir, a dark-skinned dark cloaked firbolg, found himself falling alongside one of his companions, Darcassian the Mavom Elf. Nadir bounced off the mushroom he first struck, then landed upon a smaller one cushioning his fall. Him and Darcassian immediately began to look around at the bodies near them, checking for signs of life and signs of their friends. Bixi, a large hairy woman who is claims to be a gnome, landed hard, breaking the stalk of the mushroom she had landed upon and being forced to ride the falling mushroom down to the ground. Once on her feet, she discovered that her enemy, Semolina Hedgehopper, had also fallen, and was stuck on her back in the middle of a smaller mushroom that she had crushed.   Whilst Davaa and Evsalom worked together to save a drowning woman, which they were only successful at due to the reluctant assistance of Kaziel when he knocked a mushroom down to use as a float, Bixi accused Semolina of causing the catastrophe that led to the party being there. Nadir and Darcassian soon joined the bickering between Semolina and Bixi, with Semolina vehemently denying any responsibility   It was only when Davaa ran by to help the woman trapped atop a mushroom and her injured husband that they learned they had fallen through a Seam. The bickering ended, and the entire group rushed to try to help the woman down.   Nadir coaxed the woman to jump and he would catch her, unfortunately the jump didn't go too well, and the woman tripped tumbling downward to land atop Nadir. However, outside of a few bruises, she was alright, and she went running to her husband, who Davaa was struggling to administer first aid to. Nadir came over, called upon the blessings of the Eventide and healed the man. With thing finally calming down, the party took a moment to discuss where they were, noticing that the mushroom forest was eerily silent.   Then... a scream from the direction where several of the survivors were standing. The party rushed to battle, discovering the forest was filled with fleshy creatures with tiny arms and faces with no ears or mouths.   They went to battle against the beasts, Nadir slaying the first with his Toll the Bell. Bixi smashing several of them with her maul, and Kaziel boiling them alive with his burning hands. Davaa fought one on one vs a beast that had taken down one of the men they had saved, its body slithering atop the man and oozing around him. Davaa managed to slay the beast, but was unable to save the man.   In the midst of the battle, another creature appeared. This one moving faster, as it went straight for Darcassian. Darcassian fled, and Kaziel confronted the creature, bringing a curse upon it that was particularly effective.   When most of the beasts were defeated, the party discovered that they had left the husband and wife to fend for themselves. They rushed to their aid, where the woman was trying to fight off the slithering beast as it attempted to consume her husband. Davaa grabbed a throwing knife from the corpse of a carnival performer and flung it at the beast, slaying it.   The body of the slain man, and the husband, Sahar, were both covered in burns and boils from where the creature had formed itself around them. The dead man's body was almost completely rotted away, but Nadir was able to, once again, heal Sahar. However, the trauma of the attack left Sahar terrified. Once again quiet, the group of survivors discussed plans, with Evsalom trying to take command of the situation. Davaa, somewhat experienced in traveling Seams, convinces them to follow his lead.   Thus, the survivors began to follow the river, looking for some way out of the mushroom forest and back to their own world.   An hour away from their landing point, the party's demeanor begins to change, and a disturbance seems to have fallen upon them. Darcassian complains of hearing a strange deep cacophonous sound, yet the only ones who seem to hear it as well are Davaa and Nura, Nadir's little owl familiar.   Davaa and Kaziel decided to scout ahead with Nura to discover the source of the sound. Ataidas, one of the survivors, tries to convince them to take her as well, but they refused and went without her.   As they grew closer, Davaa grew sicker and had to turn back. Nadir then decided to go with Kaziel, sending Nura back to her pocket dimension for safety. However, Nadir first drew a card from his deck... revealing the card of the sun, a grave symbol in the desert. Nadir then refuses to travel forward and turns back.   Bickering begins once again, as the survivors try to determine what their next moves should be. As the possibility of turning back is brought up, Semolina stands up and refuses to travel back and forth. She volunteers to investigate the source of the sound and Ataidas quickly joins her. Evsalom refuses to allow two unarmed and untrained commoners go alone, and steps forward to lead them. Soon, all but Nadir, Darcassian, Haida (the woman saved earlier by Davaa and Evsalom), and the couple, Sahar and Saidari, have decided to move forward.   The scouting party travelled further, going towards the sound, which grew louder and louder for Davaa. Soon, they realized they were near the source, as they could hear a strange slithering sound coming from behind a large blue mushroom.   Not wanting to encounter another horrifying beast without the healing power of Nadir, the party called for him. It took some convincing but Nadir and party decided to rejoin the rest. Darcassian became especially sick as they travelled forward, grasping Nadir's arm for support, just as Saidari was practically dragging her whimpering husband.   By the time they arrived, the strange slithering noise had died away, though the deep rumble that only Darcassian and Davaa heard still existed. The party rounded the blue mushroom to see what they would find.
